PASTevents Class of 1967 Reunion - 50 Years On
On Sunday 2 July, 22 of our year met at Rosie Naunton-Morgan’s house in Putney to celebrate 50 years since we left Mayfield. Admittedly some of us had left earlier or later, but we had all spent memorable years together at St. Leonards and/or Mayfield. Some had remained good friends and were in regular contact for others it was 50 years since we had seen each other. It was a wonderful day and we all resolved to meet again before too long.

Charleston Literary Festival
2017 was our third year as a sponsor of the Charleston Festival, an event which is very important to us. We have also extended our support of Charleston to encompass Small Wonder, Charleston’s short story Festival which takes place in September and we will once again be sponsoring the BBC Short Story Award this year. A number of girls from the English department are chosen to represent Mayfield at ‘Small Wonder’.
This May, 20 guests were treated to an inspirational afternoon at Mayfield’s sponsored event at the main festival. ‘In the Wings’ saw Simon Morrison, author of ‘Bolshoi Confidential’ and Professor of Music at Princeton, acclaimed dance critic Judith Mackrell, author of ‘The Unfinishied Palazzo’ and celebrated ballerina Tamara Rojo, Artistic Director of English National Ballet and Lead Principal with the company, taking to the stage and addressing a marquee thronging with guests. This utterly captivating, thought provoking and inspirational afternoon echoed so much of Mayfield’s ethos. Tamara’s desire for her dancers to take risks, to accept ‘failure’, to create their own characters and not merely mimic others resonated strongly with the strength we imbue in our girls. We were, as ever, utterly delighted to be joined by Old Cornelians, and on this occasion Sr Jean, Sr TJ and Sr Maria.
“We saw the stupendous ballet dancer and impresario Tamara Rojo talk passionately about getting artists - girls especially - to take risks and giving them a safe space to fail, and how new interpretations and new parts can't be made unless they try. We take risks like crazy, and fail sometimes, and take more risks, and all in all it was inspirational and I wanted to bottle the whole day up and share it with every young teen I meet. This. If you dare to be different ... this." Sophia Bennett Class of 1984
