The second phase is in a place called Chitrakoot which is in one of the poorest and most deprived areas in India. We have plans for separate boarding schools for girls and boys, as well as a day school aimed at helping the local tribal families. In addition to providing education, providing food is necessary to get people to actually come to school. In fact, when we talked to these local families, they did not ask what kind of education they would get but whether they would be getting fed. To encourage children into school, it is necessary to be a complete community project providing healthcare, work in the fields and empowering the women by teaching various skills. Looking at the long term sustainability and viability of the project, we will be looking to produce our own solar power, keeping our own cows for milk, ghee and fermenting our own bio-gas for cooking and home grown fertiliser. We will be rainwater harvesting when possible, and using old methods of building combined with new techniques to be able to make buildings as environmentally friendly and low cost as possible.
Our long term plan has always been to make a model like this which could be replicated in other regions, but we needed to train some children to become our future teachers in order to be able to go into the rural areas. The Indian culture is very rural and community based and we feel that in this way we can bring value based education without raising the cost of living, and bring people together to share their skills for the betterment of the community as a whole. The Indian economy is today 70% based on agriculture and this is a way that we can reach people who need us most. This is obviously going to require some serious funding to put in the infrastructure and we have raised £20,000 specifically towards this. If you know any foundations, companies or philanthropists that could be inspired by participating in this kind of work, please do let us know. We need all the help that we can get! This is a long term project and it will of course take a lot of time and we look forward to sharing the journey with you as it develops. Thank you - You all make a difference!
We can have endless ideas but at the end of the day we cannot do anything without you.
We loved the Olympics arranged by Jules Olds and his brother Ed Higgins in their summer series of workshops. Simon Chapman also came and gave a week’s outstanding Spoken English workshops. All the workshops were packed to the brim! Special thanks to Jade Lockwood who raised £500 through a Bakeathon which was used to complete the 30 sets of Ladybird books which we have been collecting for three years! Paula Navarro, a Spanish lawyer, volunteered with us for two months. On her return home, her sister's school, Julio Verne, raised 1000 Euros in a business enterprise project. Corinne Coles, a much loved UK lawyer came and taught English and sang lots of rhymes in our KG over the winter!
Ariadna and Anania (
gaudiumvitablog.wordpress.com) did their second fundraising through an Instagram yoga challenge (@yogamission9) raising over £750 towards books and yoga mats. Thanks to the DEW Association for funding the computer centre teacher and art & craft materials for another year! We are grateful to all the support that Shangri-lah, Belgium gives us financially and their continued moral support. Thanks to
SynapseIndia.com for their invaluable ongoing support. Shadol Foundation, Holland visited with Ron van der Post this year and gave us an incredible donation of £1,200.

OC Ann Marie Jackson's (Class of 1988) regular boxes of clothes from Italy are wonderful. Thanks also to the Hobson Charitable Foundation and the Mitchell Foundation. We are deeply grateful to all of you. Many of you are helping us with monthly donations to sponsor a child, and we need at least 27 more sponsors right now!
Thank you to all of you, please continue to spread the word!
Sponsor a child this year!
Give a child a great start in life for just £20 a month. This provides an excellent education, uniform, books, food as well as love and care.
For just £30 a month you can fully sponsor a residential child for all their needs.
Volunteer your time and hold/ do a sponsored event to raise funds for the kids. Help us to make a difference!
