Class of 1976 Reunion
A few OCs from the Class of 1976 tried to gather a group together to go to last September's reunion at Mayfield. However, as not many were able to go, we decided to organise a year group reunion in London in November. Claire Ball shared the school's database and with clever sleuthing by Barbara Cox, it grew from eight members to over 30. 22 of us met at a pub in London and had a wonderful, lively evening.
Celeste Cronin started a WhatsApp group and also a Cluster group. Our database continued to grow to over 50 this year and allowing time for some of those living abroad to organise their visits, we organised a dinner for 26 in a private room at a West End restaurant on Saturday, 14th May. Although most of us have kept in touch with close Mayfield friends over the years, it was an opportunity for all of us to see many old classmates whom we hadn't seen for over 40 years - a real trip down memory lane! OCs descended on London from France, Belgium, California, Memphis, and the far corners of the UK.
As is often the case, although older and wiser and less svelte, we were really just the same people we were at school, and very quickly transported ourselves back into the old days, re-living many memories and stories of life at St Leonards and Mayfield, and picking up where we left off. Several of us had started at St Leonards aged eight, back in 1965. Over drinks and dinner, we were able to catch up with each other’s' lives and much fun was had by all.
Next day, a group of six from our year met at Mayfield, had a delightful reunion and lunch with Sisters Jean and Teresa Joseph, and were given a full tour of the school by two Year 10 pupils, which although recognisable, has been much updated over the past 41 years. There are only now around 14 girls in the year who we have not been able to make contact with. Lively WhatsApp conversations continue between the ever expanding group around the world, I counted over 70 one day!
