School Newsin brief Maria Fidelis girls visit Mayfield

On 16th March, Mayfield was delighted to welcome a group of students from Maria Fidelis School as part of our ongoing exchange scheme.

The Mayfield girls who visited Maria Fidelis last June enjoyed catching up with their old friends and showing them around Mayfield.

As you will see from some of the comments from our visitors below, the highlights of the visit were Mayfield’s excellent food and our fantastic Dance Show!

Shania Sergeant commented: “Not only was it amazing because I was able to see all my friends from Mayfield, it was extremely beneficial to me as I was in a positive working environment, where I knew everyone wanted to achieve. I definitely think that being in an all‐girls environment has an impact as there was nothing to distract us. Although it was only a day, it made me realise how much I can achieve in a short time.

The Dance Show was my personal favourite. It was amazing because the girls were so confident and didn’t care about whether they looked silly, they were simply having a good time and putting on an outstanding show. The show also had a personal meaning to me as I have a friend who suffers from Cystic Fibrosis. It meant a lot that they donated the proceeds for researching cures.”

Rome and Sorrento trip

Early on the Saturday morning of half term, three teachers and 19 intrepid girls from Years 10 to 12, left the ice and snow of the UK behind and headed to sunny Italy. The purpose of the trip was to visit Archaeological sites in Rome and the Bay of Naples. We explored the Roman Forum, the Palatine Hill, the Colosseum, and the Pantheon, as well as the ancient cities of Pompeii, and Herculaneum. We also had the chance to study the wealth of antiquities and Renaissance Art in the Capitoline Museum, and the Naples Archaeological Museum.

Highlights of the trip included climbing Mount Vesuvius and a private Mass in the Vatican at the tomb of Pope Saint John 23rd.

The weather was glorious throughout and we sampled a vast range of different ice cream flavours over a tiring but wonderful five days!
