Overview

“Delco is where famous art, history and gardens meet cold beer, global food, and memorable people…”

This quote came from Delaware County, PA’s Tourism Bureau Executive Director, Tore Fiore, who couldn’t have anticipated the huge impact it would make when, two years ago, he led the charge to rebrand Delaware County’s Tourism Bureau from Brandywine Country to Destination Delco.

“Yes, our county lies in the heart of the Brandywine Valley, with its rich colonial history, vineyards, and the Wyeth-inspired Brandywine River Museum of Art… but we are much more than that,” he explained, pointing out that Delaware County encompasses half of the Philadelphia Airport, the Delaware Riverside from Philly to the Delaware state border, as well as an eclectic group of “middle America” towns, vibrant urban communities, and sweeping sections of the Main Line and the Brandywine Valley.

Destination Delco’s colorful digital and print campaigns promote the county’s many personalities, global roots and rowdy sides - having resulted in more than 400,000 web visits in less than two years - and about 28 million actual “human” visitors to the county.

According to Fiore, “Delco is the third smallest county in the state, but it has a big, bold charm that sticks with you like the chicken parm at Boca Cucina in Upper Darby, or the Spanish tapas at Table 11 in Media.”

Fiore also pointed out that more than 45 percent of Delco room nights are busi- ness-related, adding, “our business land- scape is just as big, bold and global as the food.”

Along with the airport, Delco’s riverside boasts companies like Boeing, Sun Oil, Widener University, and Harrah’s Philadelphia Casino and Race Track.
