A centrifuge is a machine that swings a capsule or "gondola" around in a circle on the end of a long arm. Its purpose is to simulate gravitational (“G”) forces on a human test subject. When it began operations in 1949, this centrifuge was an engineering marvel of its day. Housed in a 125-foot diameter room and driven by a powerful motor, it could accelerate from a standstill to 178mph in less than seven seconds!

In 1959, the Mercury Seven crew began their

centrifuge training

Throughout the ‘60s, the space program progressed as the U.S. came ever closer to its goal of "landing a man on the moon and retuning him safely to the Earth." Eventually, all of America's early astronauts, including Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin, received centrifuge training at Johnsville. However, by the 1990s oper- ations at the centrifuge were largely con- tracted out, and it made its last run in 2005. Since that time, this amazing space has been transformed into a truly unique special event venue.

The Fuge, which now plays host to meet- ings events, corporate fundraisers and more, boats offerings that

advanced audio-visual equipment and technical support, complimentary wire- less Internet, plus innovative catering.

The Fuge boasts 18,000-square feet of function space, including a main event space that still exhibits the world's largest human centrifuge. It has the capacity to host over 700 guests with din- ner-style seating or a cocktail party for 1,500 guests.

State-of-the-art lighting provides a dra- matic effect for events, and the room comes equipped with a concert quality sound system. Two 37-foot movie screens are built into the room and can be seen from all seating areas.

The Lab at The Fuge is a more intimate space that is tailored toward clients who have smaller guest lists; however, it still holds the uniqueness of the larger event space. The Lab can accommodate up to
