Swimming Pool Scene REFURB AND RENOVATION
Steeped In Swimming History
ABOVE: Swimmers recently took the plunge at The Victoria Baths for the fi rst time in 24 years.
Swimming was recently possible for the fi rst time in 24 years at Manchester’s Victoria Baths, attracting national tv broadcasting and multi media attention.
Still only partially restored, the Victoria Bath’s accumulated the bulk of £5m in fundraising via a Heritage Lottery Fund grant secured as a result of us winning BBC’s Restoration programme in 2003. The building operates as a heritage visitor attraction and events venue with around 30,000 visitors each year. But this is just the start of the restoration journey. The vision is to fully restore the
legislation and directives on energy effi ciency. In fact, Heatstar units often exceed the legal energy effi ciency requirements making a refurbished pool not just up to date but ahead of the game. The cost saving and performance benefi ts of a Heatstar system do not end once commissioning has taken place and the system is in full use. An effective maintenance plan will help ensure the optimum performance of the Heatstar system and of course help guarantee long term, trouble free usage of the system. Heatstar therefore offer planned maintenance agreements on all their products ensuring the system is looked after routinely by one of Heatstar’s own dedicated engineers.
With the market so dependent on refurbishment, Jamie Adams comments: “It’s crucial that pool companies are communicating the benefi ts of breathing life into existing pools. Our glossy, full-colour retrofi t catalogue has been designed to help you do just that. “It spells out the advantages of upgrading and tells customers about the many ways they can improve their pool experience: from automatic dosing to automatic covers.”

building, bringing public leisure facilities back into use, starting with the Turkish Baths.
The long-term aim is to have public swimming at Victoria Baths. But currently this is only available for one-off occasions. Jill Earnshaw, chair of the Victoria Baths Trust commented: “The excitement surrounding this swim, the unprecedented levels of interest, and the fact that Victoria Baths became part of the national news agenda has renewed the vigour we have for the vision of Victoria Baths.”
