Summer is in full swing here on the Costa Blanca. It’s getting warm, the beach is beckoning not to mention that cheeky G&T. You’re living the dream and it’s wonderful. Now, I don’t want to break the mood, but it’s too easy to overlook some basic personal finance ‘to-do’s’. Here are the top 3 financial issues you should be thinking about.

1 – Work History & Pensions. You’d be amazed at how many people simply forget they worked for a company in the UK and have a works pension. Just recently, we surprised a client by finding out he had a £50,000 lump sum just waiting to be claimed! But it’s not just about quick wins, you need to know how safe is your pension, who’s managing it, are there any risks. And then you need to know when do you get your UK state pension. And of course you might want to increase your pension, move it to a more secure fund and naturally work out if it’s enough for your needs as you get older.

2 – Personal Savings. In order to live you need money – seems obvious really. Your personal savings are part of your lifestyle spending so you need to be sure again that it's safe. Moreover, are you receiving adequate interest on it or is it losing value in real terms? And of course, are you paying too much tax like many people are?

3 – How is Brexit Going to Affect Me? Whilst many things remain uncertain, when it comes to your inheritance position you could save your family a huge tax bill by ensuring your assets are kept in the right country. Inheritance rates differ significantly enough to make this a vital consideration.
