Snoring
Quite frankly I am very much against medical quackery and publicity on health devices of dubious results being sold on the web, but some time ago I came across an anti-snoring device which consists of a silicone mouth piece to be worn at night.
It looked as it would feel uncomfortable but less so than other similar devices - one was an elastic band from the top of the back of the head to under the chin to wear at night, another consisted of a tongue pulling vacuum clamp which kept the tongue from dropping back during sleep.
The cost was low, less than 3€ plus shipping so I decided to order and try it. It came well packed with a very brief explanation of how to adapt it to your gum shape which I did and to my surprise the thing has worked well since the very first day – or should I say night. I sleep without any snoring and according to my wife, my sleep apnea had stopped, something that I could confirm by the sensation of having had a really good sleep in the mornings, fully fresh and renewed, as I used to feel a couple of decades ago.
The concept is quite simple; a device that keeps the lower jaw projected forward and thus keeping the tongue from falling backwards as you can see on the image.
The air can now flow easily from the nose downwards and the upper palate membrane gets tightened at the back, stopping vibrations. There is also a little hole between upper and lower teeth so you can still breathe through the mouth if needed.
It has been 3 years now since I started to use it and I am sure that although it may not be the answer for all cases, I am convinced it will for many, including wives and partners.
I also believe that many patients who have been diagnosed with sleep apnea and need to use those most uncomfortable and noisy CPAP machines could benefit with something that slips in your pocket.
