CSEP Turns 50: Celebrating 50 Years of Science to Practice

n 2017, the Canadian Society for Exercise Physiology (CSEP) is cel- ebrating it’s 50th Anniversary. Over the past 50 years, CSEP has

driven science to practice in Canada in the field of exercise science. CSEP’s growing membership includes lead- ing experts in the field of exercise sci- ence and human movement research in addition to some of the most quali- fied exercise professionals in Canada. Uniquely Canadian, this method con- nects researchers with practitioners providing evidence-based practice for a healthy lifestyle for all age-groups of the Canadian public. Since 1967, over 12,000 CSEP mem-

bers have made significant contribu- tions to exercise physiology, nutri- tion and health & fitness development across Canada and around the world.

• Meet and network with other industry leaders as well as the people behind the products, face-to-face, and have fun with a community of other like-minded professionals on the exhibit hall floor, in educational sessions and at networking events.

• Improve your business operations, inspire personal growth and provide insight into the future of the industry.

CSEP has been a leader in translating these advances through publications such as the Canadian Physical Activity Guidelines, and the Canadian 24-hour Movement Guidelines for Children and Youth, the first of their kind to address the integration of movement behav- iours over a whole day (all physical ac- tivity, sedentary behaviour and sleep). In addition, CSEP’s 5000+ CSEP Certified Personal Trainers®

CPT) and CSEP Certified Exercise Physiologists®

(CSEP-CEP) provide

evidence-informed personal training and counsel to thousands of members

of the public through their work in health clubs, community centres, reha- bilitations centres and private clinics across the country. To celebrate this golden anniver-

sary, the CSEP Annual Conference is playing homage to the inaugural AGM hosted in Winnipeg during the 1967 Pan American Games.
