National Health and Fitness Day 2017

une 3 was National Health and Fitness Day (NHFD). Senator Nancy Greene Raine, in partnership with


former MP John Weston, saw passage of Bill S-211, the National Health and Fitness Day Act, in December 2014. The passage of the Bill creates a strong impetus bringing communities to- gether on the first Saturday every June to highlight the importance of health and fitness.


8 Fitness Business Canada July/August 2017 As an FIC initiative, FIC has been


encouraging participating fitness clubs to waive their drop-in fees for the day to promote health and wellness. The objective of NHFD is to introduce in- dividuals to a healthy lifestyle to help reduce the health care costs attributed to preventable diseases. Many fitness clubs have also hosted events to pro- mote the day. On June 3, Greco Fitness co-hosted

a fitness event on Parliament Hill to promote NHFD. Thousands of peo- ple came out to participate. Former MP and National Health and Fitness Foundation president John Weston joined by City Counsellor Mathieu Fleury launched the event. “I am delighted to be joining forces


with great fitness leaders in our com- munity,” said Tony Greco, founder of Greco Fitness. “Our philosophies align and we all have the same goal of bring- ing awareness to the importance of liv- ing a healthy and active lifestyle.” To register your club as a participating club or to see a full list of participating fitness facilities, please visit www.gym- pass.ca.
