Going Out - Page 55 CHUMS help La Nucia Food Bank

Four members of CHUMS (friends of charity) a registered group based in Benidorm and Albir accompanied by Rita and Anna from La Nucia Food Bank went to Lidl in La Nucia and loaded six trolleys with 528€ worth of food and

essentials for La Nucia Food Bank. Marilyn Rogers of CHUMS said it was due to the generosity of our members we are able to do this and it gives us all a warm feeling. We loaded all the groceries into our vehicles and whisked the goods back to La Nucia food bank cold store and helped Rita and Anna unload everything. Here in the picture are Marilyn, Peter, Pat and Brian from CHUMS and Rita and Anna with some of the trolleys.

Anyone who would like to join the group or would like more information please ring Marilyn on 96 586 4394.

Royal Naval Association monthly lunch

Ship mates of The Royal Naval Association, Torrevieja Branch met for their June Menu del Dia, enjoying each others company and a good old chin wag!

Apart from eating and drinking there is a general meeting on

the first Wednesday of every month at 5pm in bar/restaurante El Paraiso near Carrefour in Torrevieja. The Royal Naval Association Standard was recently paraded in Benidorm when we were invited by the Spanish Codex Belix Battle Re-enactment Association to attend their re-enactment of The D Day Normandy Landings on 6th June 1944. A good time was had by all those who attended and enjoyed the excellent Spanish hospitality. For more information please call Chairman Paul Edwards on 618 644 934, Vice Chairman Danny Kay on 96 671 6274 or Secretary Margaret Forshaw on 96 692 1996. Remember – you don’t have to have been in the Royal Navy to join and new members are welcomed with a tot!

210€ raised for Calpe Food Bank

Boutique Carol in Calpe has long been a supporter of Calpe & Benissa Lions, and an intimate Fashion Show held at the Boutique in Calle Doctor Fleming recently raised 210€ specifically for the

Calpe Food bank. Guests enjoyed Bucks Fizz in the sunshine while models paraded the latest summer styles and colours of the moment from designers such as Joseph Robkoff, Frank Lyman and Pause Cafe. All in all a delightful morning, and for a very good cause.

International Benidorm news

In response to assistance given to one of their clients, Lisa Turner, director of PMR Property services and colleagues decided to combine fund raising for HELP International Benidorm with their 1 0 th Anniv ersary celebrations.

At the celebration party held at a villa in Albir last month, Lisa Turner presented a cheque for 1750€ to Andrea Hope, Vice President of HELP International Benidorm. Both PMR and HELP have easily accessible websites to provide further information.

Also last month, HELP International Benidorm had a D-Day Party at the Peppermill, Benidorm. They had a very enjoyable lunch and afterwards Roy Gough and Cindy Lambert led the singing of all the old 1940s songs

whilst waving their Union Jacks. They finished up with Land of Hope and Glory. We had a superb raffle with lots of prizes which raised 216€ for HELP International funds.

HELP International Benidorm meets every Thursday morning at 10.30am for the 11 am meeting and they meet at Centro Social Jose Llorca, Calle Goya, 03502 Benidorm. Come along and join us.
