Teulada – Moraira Lions Club 1st Summer Concert Raises 1460€

The first TM Lions Summer concert held on the Moraira seafront this season featured the wonderful U3A Band who

thrilled the crowd with an eclectic collection of songs from their vast repertoire which included some tried and trusted favourites from the rock, blues and pop genres of music.

The evening was enjoyed tremendously by all who participated, and the band and crew worked tirelessly to entertain the assembled throng. Lion President Brian Clarke thanked the band, the Ayuntamiento and the audience for their magnificent generosity, the U3A band performed free of charge and this was very much appreciated. Donations to the Lions totalled more than 1460€, these funds will go to support local good causes and the Teulada – Moraira Lions have several projects in hand to benefit the community.

Next concert 6th August The next concert scheduled for the 6th August features the very talented local band “Mr. Pink” with the incomparable “John the Fiddler” kicking off the show so keep an eye on the local press for more details.

The Teulada – Moraira Lions are actively seeking new members and if you would like to be involved with the largest service club in the world please contact our membership Chairman Dr. Nico Dekkers on 96 597 4941 or email: nicorateulada@gmail.com.

Recently 9 members and 24 children aged from 3 - 17 travelled by coach to Oceanografic, the largest aquarium in Europe, situated in the architecturally-spectacular City of Arts and Sciences in Valencia.

On arrival at the busy Oceanografic and after the now-traditional group photo, the members went off in groups to explore the many attractions, arranged by geographic regions of the world. The Arctic and Antarctic collections, housed in a giant igloo, included penguins, seals and a cute beluga whale and her baby. The Tropical area and several others included a tunnel through which visitors walk, a wonderful experience with fish all around you. This was particularly scary when we were surrounded by sharks! We also saw turtles, flamingos, pelicans, a colourful collection of tropical butterflies and some of the more adventurous members braved the 4D cinema, complete with 'special effects'! Sarah Barne's son Tom, who never stopped smiling all day, loved the crocodiles and the sharks and little Valentina was very happy being so close to all the different types of colourful fish, both large and small! Angelika took some spectacular photos and a video of jelly fish and we watched a wonderful dolphin show. The trip was superbly organised by GA treasurer Ann Lawrenson, who was assisted on the day by mentors Celia and Vernon Pearce. Judging by the many comments and tributes the next morning on Facebook, everyone had a fantastic time and is looking forward to our next event - the Pool Day on 12th August.
