Going Out - Page 49 Calpe Beacon Improving the Quality of Life for Local Underprivileged Children.

Calpe Beacon have recently held two sponsored events to raise money for local underprivileged children of Calpe.

The First Calpe Beacon Annual Golf Tournament

This was the first of many events, made possible by the commitments of our sponsors: Infinity International FX - Teletec - K&M Domestic Appliances - Chorus Financial - Golden Leaves International. Twenty eight golfers enjoyed a great day out at Alenda Club De Golf followed by an evening Dinner Dance at the Hotel Gran Sol Calpe, where they were joined by eighty friends and family.

Calpe Beacon Family Fun Day A 'fun' day was enjoyed by all at the Hotel Gran Sol Calpe. Rodney Payler, President of Calpe Beacon was pleased to accept a cheque for 1100€ from Merrick of K&M representing the sponsors of the earlier golf day.

Our thanks go to our sponsors whose support in covering our costs and efforts towards some great events, ensure that every cent raised will benefit the underprivileged children of Calpe.

Sailing Down the River 40 members of the U3A Marina Baixa travelled from Albir to

Cieza in Murcia. After donning life jackets and helmets we clambered into four rafts with 10 on each, everyone had to row and really work hard with instructions from a professional ‘skipper’ at the back.

This was the fourth year and for a change we rowed from Cieza to Blanco. It is not exactly white water rafting but still great fun. There is plenty of splashing, colliding with the reeds on the side, areas where you can get out and swim and some 'bumpy' areas of river. The highlight is the 2 weirs - 1 medium which we all did and 1 large which some of us didn’t do because it was at our own risk. Those who ‘dropped over’ said it was thrilling. It actually looked almost slow motion and not scary at all. Thanks must once again go to Rob for organising this popular event. Roll on next year!
