Summer Motoring Tips For Driving Here In Sunny Spain
This month we have put together a selection of hints and tips to help you enjoy your summer driving.
1) When you return to your car if it has been parked in the sun, always open the windows as soon as you get in. It may sound obvious but your air conditioning will be trying to cool extremely hot air unless you allow the air to escape first. Once the air coming out of the vents is cold, then close your windows which will get everything cooler much quicker. 2) Speaking of air conditioning, it is very normal to see water under your car once you have parked it. Condensation forms on all the pipework and drips on the floor – so long as it is clear fresh water, this is where it is coming from. 3) If you ride a bike or scooter, always wear the correct clothing. I know that it is warm but falling off or being involved in accident will be much, much worse if you are wearing shorts and flip flops! 4) Never leave valuables on display in your car – this obviously applies all year round but it pays to be extra vigilant in the summer months as there often more opportunist thieves operating at this time of year. 5) Never leave pets or indeed children inside a vehicle, even for very short periods. Tests done in 2015 show that depending on exact conditions, an external temperature of between 80º (27ºC) and 100º (38ºC) WILL lead to an internal temperature of between 130º (54ºC) and 172º (77ºC) in a very short space of time!!
6) Be sympathetic to your vehicle – many components are working harder than normal at this time of year, in particular your cooling system. Keep an eye on your coolant level and make sure that you don’t have any leaks. 7) Finally, and probably most importantly – don’t rush around, and be patient with our tourist visitors. Many people could well be driving an unfamiliar car, on unfamiliar roads in an unfamiliar country. We have all been there once so please try and be patient and always expect the unexpected. Allow a bigger than normal distance from the car in front and allow slightly longer for your summer journeys – better to arrive safely and relaxed than frustrated, stressed or even worse!

The world’s first speeding ticket was issued in 1902.
How fast was the offending motorist travelling? A scandalous 45mph!
