Polar Nights The polar night occurs when the sun does not rise above the horizon. This only occurs above the polar circle in Nor- way, and this far north there are almost two months of polar nights during winter. Even though the sun remains below the horizon, Northern Norway is not blacked out completely – there is a gloriously eerie blue shade to the skies, and on clear days, we can see beautiful sunset colours in the south while the sky to the north is a deep midnight blue.

WHAT TO SEE


The Ølhallen pub in Tromsø opened in 1928 in the cellar of Macks Bryggeri, the northernmost brewery in the world. Ølhallen is situated at the southern end of Tromsø’s main street, Storgata, and is easy to fi nd. You can go on a guided tour of the brewery or just enjoy a beer with the regulars. Expect a lot of gossip and laughter.
