Your counsellor may be one of a team of people who support you on this journey.
We encourage you to think about who will be on your team. Your team may include friends, family members and professionals. Together we can explore strategies to overcome barriers so you can live your life more fully and make future plans that are not dominated by the experience of abuse.

We are interested in what is important to you – the values that you embrace and seek to live by.
The values that are often highlighted by clients are respect, trust, hope, courage, love and compassion, nurture and protection. Frequently we hear of circumstances in which people have not experienced these values in their own lives. Where they might have expected others to care for and respect them, they have instead been abused and disrespected.
Our clients talk about being “survivors”. They have discovered strengths that enable them to overcome the effects of the abuse.
Your counsellor will help you acknowledge your strengths and resources. You will recognise some strengths immediately; others may emerge as you share your story and reflect on what other people value in you.
We listen and seek to understand your particular experience.
We will not assume that we know exactly what you have been through. We will assist you in understanding the impact of the abuse on your life and work with you to reclaim your present and future.
As a counselling team, we believe people are able to overcome the effects of abuse and move forward with their lives.
We believe your experience of childhood sexual abuse does not define you and need not dominate or determine your life and future.
