There are a whole variety of strategies that you may have already used to help cope with the effects of abuse in your life.

Some of these strategies may still work very well for you, but other strategies may no longer be as effective as before.

Your counsellor will work with you to identify the most effective strategies to help you at present.

Life can throw all sorts of difficulties your way - relationship breakdown, parenting issues, work stress, study, housing and financial challenges to name a few.

At times, talking through the impacts of the abuse can have a helpful effect on these other areas of your life as it can help to strengthen your overall ability to cope. There may also be times when a break from counselling is appropriate while you deal with current challenges.

“The idea of telling someone was scary, but the idea of keeping it to myself any longer was scarier.”

“It was difficult at first, but at the end of the first session I felt lighter.”

Paulina, age 34
