SO it’s a pet ICE keyring and card that you carry with you everywhere you go so if god forbid you were in an emergency situation and unable to speak for yourself the emergency services would be alerted to the fact that there are pets that are home alone at your address that will need to be cared for. We feel that carrying this keyring and card could make all the difference for the pets concerned and would also give real peace of mind for the owners. It certainly would me, I love my animals, I have 5 dogs and 4 cats they are part of my family and the thought of them left fend for themselves for who knows how long, fretting and stressed not to mention becoming dehydrated or without anyone to give them food or water is just unthinkable. owner said “We all have to leave our pets at home sometimes even if it’s only to go the shops, so what would happen to them if something happened to you while you were out?
makes you think doesn’t it?
It really It’s
even more important for people who live on their own, to carry a keyring and card, you can’t put a value on having peace of mind knowing that your pets would be looked after.” Cats often have a cat flap and many are by nature more independent
than most pets
but dogs in particular would become very upset and start fretting when their owner didn’t
return at the usual time. They would not have access to food and water and even if they were discovered, its important to have a nominated person that has previously agreed to take care of them. We
have designed the
keyrings and cards ourselves as we really believe it could save a lot of distress for owners and pets alike. We initially have 1000 available and will give 60 pence in every £1 donated to the East Anglian
Air Ambulance the
other 40 pence will go to printing some more sets of keyring and cards.
Big Band swings into Leiston Film Theatre
SUFFOLK based Big Band, Swing Machine, will be recreating familiar sounds of the 1930’s, 40’s and 50’s at Leiston Film Theatre this spring, with a special fund raising concert, in aid of the venue’s Support Club. Members of this brilliant band are looking forward to their debut appearance on Sat 27th May.
Their repertoire
includes music from Glenn Miller, Count Basie, Ted Heath, Woody Herman and Duke Ellington. The band will also be accompanied by two vocalists, who perform individually and as a duo, covering songs which could
include those made
famous by Frank Sinatra, Bobby Darin, Ella Fitzgerald, Michael Bublé and Harry Connick-Jr, amongst many others. With some
fantastic instrumental
soloists complementing the band’s arrangements, the concert is certain to provide an enjoyable evening of fine entertainment. The
event Leiston Film
is supporting Theatre’s hard
working Support Club, who, in the past ten years alone, have funded £100,000 worth of improvements at the prestigious 102 year old venue. Through
numerous fund
raising activities and social events, the Club provides financial assistance towards many improvements made at the venue. In 2009, the Club completed their ‘Set the Stage’ project, improving the Film Theatre’s film presentations and capability to stage live shows.
The Club have also greatly assisted in the enlargement of the foyer and installation of the digital projection equipment. Most recently, the Club have pledged to support the Film Theatre’s management’s commitment to improve the backstage facilities, which are receiving plaudits from all artistes who have used them. The Club’s ‘Behind the Scenes’ project continues, with an aim to provide new sound and lighting equipment, thus enabling the venue to attract more quality live shows to the stage.
These latest improvements will greatly enhance the stage sets for forthcoming live shows, including Just Like That! The Tommy Cooper Show (April 29th),
Joe Pasquale (August
29th) and If It’s Laughter You’re After (October 6th).
Annual membership to the Leiston Film Theatre Support Club is just £6 and membership forms are available from the Film Theatre foyer, or by contacting the venue on 01728 830549 or email: info@leistonfilmtheatre.

urinary problems: Inflammation of the bladder, Feline Lower Urinary Tract Disease (FLUTD) is a common complaint in cats. Rarely as a result of infection, cats are more prone to stress- induced cystitis.
FLUTD
occurs when the urinary tract becomes inflamed and blocked. Blockages can be the result of a
stone, infection or a build up of struvite crystals. Most
cats (60-70%) affected suffer from ‘idiopathic
interstitial
cystitis’ meaning the cause of the complaint is unknown. Abnormalities rarely show up on x-rays or ultrasounds, and urinalysis usually comes back clear of infection. Stress in the home could all be causal factors. Most cats affected by FLUTD will exhibit one or a combination of symptoms, the most common being frequent urination. Others include straining, often accompanied by ‘crying’ vocalisation, passing very little at
a time and inappropriate
spraying. Your vet will take a history to establish all the signs being exhibited. A physical examination will be carried out and a urine sample collected. FLUTD can be seen in cats of any age both male and female; more frequently in middle-aged, overweight cats, and those with diabetes or kidney disease are more
susceptible. Cats need to drink water, but get much
of their hydration from their food. If a cat is de-hydrated, it is more vulnerable to struvite crystal formation which will cause
discomfort and possible bleeding. Encouraging your cat to drink enough is vital; always ensure fresh water is available. There are also many varieties of specially formulated food now available for cats susceptible to urinary problems.
Minimising upheaval and stressful situations will help. Pain management is essential when dealing with the condition. Rarely, an antibiotic may be prescribed if a bacterial infection is suspected. Anti-inflammatory medication will
and catheterisation pain killers
Occasionally, fluid therapy or

relieve a
blockage may be needed, while surgery is often performed on male cats to reduce the chance of blockage recurrence. Catologoy:
