There’s No Stopping The Hot Tubs Superstore

WITH ITS HEAD OFFICE AND SHOWROOM IN BLACKPOOL, BISHTA MEMBER THE HOT TUBS SUPERSTORE IS ONE OF THE UK’S LEADING HOT TUB RETAILERS AND WAS HANDPICKED BY DOCUMENTARY MAKERS TO APPEAR IN A NEW REALITY TELEVISION SHOW CALLED ‘HOT TUB BRITAIN’, BEING AIRED ON ITV LATER THIS YEAR. THIS EDITION, WE SPEAK TO SALES DIRECTOR ROSS PHILLIPSON ABOUT THE COMPANY AND WHAT THE UNIQUE OPPORTUNITY MEANS FOR THE FAMILY RUN BUSINESS

n 2006 I joined The Hot Tubs Superstore as Sales Director, when the business moved to a new premises, 6,000 square foot in size. We are still in the same premises but the growth of the business has meant that we have had to expand and quickly; The Hot Tubs Superstore now stands at over 30,000 square feet and is the biggest hot tub showroom in the UK. Superstore we can attribute our success to a combination of factors, namely the business model we have implemented, our successful and ambitious e-commerce strategy, our understanding of the hot tub market, and an understanding of what our customers are looking for. We are immensely proud of our 100% customer service record, in ten years we have never had a negative review or comment and not many businesses can say that!

In the last ten years our sales and business growth has come from referrals, word of mouth testimonials and the strength of our website. We have not needed to advertise or market ourselves beyond this. To date we are already over 50% up year on year in sales of hot tubs and have experienced record breaking delivery weeks with the most successful week, when we delivered 54 hot tubs across the UK in just seven days!

Every year since we started the business we have achieved an increase in turnover and profit, even throughout the recession. 2014 however is looking to be an incredibly successful year for us; even before we appear on ITV in September in the new documentary featuring The Hot Tubs Superstore; ‘Hot Tub Britain’.

A UNIQUE OPPORTUNITY ITV’s in-house production company had spotted that the hot tub trend was one to watch and a business sector on the up. They researched and met with a number of hot

tub suppliers and manufacturers across the UK, however when they met with myself and the rest of the family behind The Hot Tubs Superstore and were shown our business model, they made the decision to feature our business in ‘Hot Tub Britain’. We have all enjoyed having the camera crew with us for the last six months and in a very short while we forgot they were there and business has carried on as usual, with little if any impact on the day to day running of the business. We are all looking forward to seeing the finished documentary before it airs in September and to the positive impact we believe it will have on our business. Of course the exact impact on sales and the

company are unknown at this time, but we have made the necessary business changes to deal with the potential increases in sales that could come following the airing of the documentary.

DISPELLING THE MYTHS There are a number of myths surrounding hot tubs; that they are a drain on electricity, they are expensive, you need a spacious garden to have one and that they are difficult to keep clean. I know and the rest of the industry knows that these are myths – we know that hot tubs are energy efficient, can fit tastefully into small and compact gardens, can be great value and are self sanitising. I really believe that the documentary will help dispel these myths and many more. I think that viewers will see the happiness that owning a hot tub brings, that families can enjoy their gardens all year round and that ‘Hot Tub Britain’ will bring a substantial boost not only to our own business, but to the wider hot tub industry. Blackpool based, The Hot Tubs Superstore is the UK’s leading hot tub retailer and is a family business with Dennis Holmes, son Daniel and son-in- law Ross Phillipson at the helm. The Hot Tubs Superstore was set up in 2004 after father and son Dennis and Daniel decided they wanted to buy a hot tub each. After much research into the industry they discovered the wide price gap between UK and US hot tubs; with US hot tubs over £5,000 cheaper than the UK equivalent. The Hot Tubs Superstore business

was launched when Dennis and Daniel decided to cut out the middle man, import from the US and promptly sold the extra hot tubs they had bought to consumers across the UK. In the first year alone the family sold 86 hot tubs.
