A Window of Opportunity

Fast Track Contracts Essential For The Holiday Park Industry

hen Holiday Parks close for the winter there is a very tight time window in which to undertake major development projects before they open again in the early spring. This problem is exacerbated by the likelihood of weather in the UK that is not at all conducive to swimming pool construction and the customary two week holiday expected by the construction industry over Christmas and the New Year.

So when Holiday and Leisure Park giant Bourne Leisure gave Dorset based Cresta Leisure Ltd a chance to prove their statement that they could “complete the whole project in 12 weeks using the Proteus / Myrtha Stainless Steel panel system” there was no room for errors or delays. When completed, Bourne Leisure were so pleased with the result, that they awarded Cresta a very similar project the following year.

The first lazy river project was at Presthaven Sands in North Wales and the second, for which Cresta were awarded ‘Commercial Pool of the Year’ at the 2014 SPATA Awards, was at Reighton Sands near Bridlington, East Riding in Yorkshire. Both projects were based on

Myrtha skimmer pool technology with vinyl coated stainless steel panels below a glass mosaic tile band at water level. The base of the river is covered in Alkor reinforced membrane on top of a 12mm underlay which provides a soft floor, which is a real hit with those using the facilities.

The panel system incorporates 12 propulsion jets fed by 4 x 9.2kW pumps to provide a flow of water around the pool. Incorporated in both projects are water cannons, water curtains, tunnel arch spray jets, bubble loungers, bubble seats, floor volcanoes and hydro massage jets. They have proved to be immensely popular with both the bathers and the pool operators.

Both projects are fitted with 2 x 1.4 metre Certikin commercial filters to satisfy the Bourne Leisure swimming pool standards, which are in line with both PWTAG and SPATA.

Cresta Leisure Ltd have now utilised Proteus / Myrtha technology on three other Bourne Leisure projects over the past two years from a new infinity edge outdoor pool to a refurbishment and upgrade of an indoor skimmer pool, and finally to a pool extension to increase the water area from 265 to 390 square metres and upgrade to deck level.
