BARR + WRAY EXPAND IN MIDDLE EAST Barr + Wray has acquired Dubai-based spa interior design specialists EDP International. The

companies have previously collaborated on a number of spa projects, including the Eastern Mangroves Hotel & Spa by Anantara and the Jumeirah Etihad Towers, both in Abu Dhabi. According to Barr + Wray Managing Director Alister MacDonald, the move helps the UK-based company to meet the increased demand for spa interior design services he has seen from the Middle East. The acquisition also allows the company to offer a more integrated and co-ordinated approach to spa engineering and interior design. MacDonald said all stages of a project could now be managed under one roof, from design through to delivery.

As part of the acquisition, three of EDP’s designers will transfer to Barr + Wray’s operations in Dubai and Glasgow, Scotland.

POOL NUMBERS RISE IN AUSTRALIA For the fifth straight month, swimming pool development application (DA) numbers in Australia have risen compared to the same month in the previous year. Queensland showed an increase of 19% over the previous June, the largest increase of any state. For June, Western

Australia proved to have the greatest number of DAs of any of the states, claiming a 30% share of the national market, followed by New South Wales with 28% and Victoria with 20%. In total, looking at the past five months, the pool numbers have increased across the country by an impressive 8%.

Starline Group Expands With Ocea Acquisition And More

At the start of July, the Starline Group BV, based in Valkenswaard (the Netherlands) and Overpelt (Belgium) announced they would be taking over all activities of Ocea, PCS and Belgostar.

These companies were part of the Aqua

Technology Group and are based in Perwez (Belgium) and Oxford (UK) respectively. With the takeover, the Starline Group BV is reinforcing its position in the field of swimming

pool covers within and outside Europe, in both the public and private sectors. The acquisition fits perfectly with their strategy and growth objectives of their business.

All companies and brands will continue to operate completely autonomously and independently under the current management with their own strategy and products. The companies will also continue to operate from their current locations.

First Showroom For Spas And Wellness In The Middle East

At the end of May, KLAFS opened its first showroom for spa and wellness in Dubai. It is the first showroom ever to provide a range of products for wellness, health and beauty in the Middle East. As one of the globe’s market leader for saunas, pools and spa, the company will be showcasing new relaxation and regeneration products, thematically divided in a heat up and a cool down-area, over a floor area of 400 m². KLAFS’ CEO Stefan Schöllhammer emphasises: “KLAFS can look back over many years of experience and innumerable outstanding projects in the region. The opening of our new showroom in Dubai is therefore a logical investment to meet the continued growing demand from the hotel industry and from private individuals.” The snow paradise in the showroom will undoubtedly be the highlight for the desert

region: Sparkling coolness in a dreamlike wintry landscape – this is where guests can experience a pleasant cool-down at -10°C between sauna sessions. And anyone who prefers a very gentle cool-down in place of entering the ‘glacier crevasse’ can enjoy a handful of frozen ice from the Polaris Ice Fountain. Tiled showers and the Lite plunge pool round off KLAFS’ display in the cool-down zone. The Wolke 7 Cloud 9 is suspended overhead for total relaxation: the

spatial work of art, awarded the European Health and Spa Award in 2013, invites people to glide weightlessly, thereby forming the perfect retreat for inner balance and deep relaxation. The Heat Up zone also showcases a variety of attractive products, which cannot fail to surprise customers with their pampering, warming wellness enjoyment: KLAFS is displaying the new Matteo Thun Edition Sauna and Steam Room, which has just been launched at the Milan Furniture Fair. The full-height glazed front side panels and front of the sauna cabin, designed by a celebrity architect, open into the sauna cabin, which is therefore flooded with incident light. At the same time, the striking exterior of the sauna cannot fail to enchant sauna-users with its unique interplay of wooden slats and joints, maintaining privacy and guaranteeing a private intimate sphere within. A large number of other spa products, such as hammam, infrared or a spacious SSF pool, round off the comprehensive range of exhibits in the Heat Up zone.
