NEWS 30 Years Of Growth For LSPC

The recent announcement that the number of billionaires in the UK continues to rise – up to 104 with a combined wealth of £301bn – can only be good news for companies like London Swimming Pool Company, the luxury pool company that has built an enviable client list among the rich and famous.

London Swimming Pool Company (LSPC) is celebrating its 30th anniversary having started as a one-man home-based business all those years ago by Tony Line. He has now clocked up some 40 years in the industry which includes three years working in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia as a director of a pool company venture, where he opened the showroom, purchased all equipment and trained personnel from many different countries including Afghanistan and Ethiopia. Today, LSPC is London’s premier swimming pool company with 25 employees operating out of offices in South London, designing, building, refurbishing and servicing pools in multi-million pound London homes. It now also undertakes large-scale commercial pool installations and refurbishment projects. The company has won over 30 industry awards, including Pool Contractor of the year three times, affirming the quality of its offering. Tony Line had a clear vision of LSPC becoming a market leader in the luxury sector and drove the business in that direction from the outset. Major growth spurts came on the back of exhibiting at a pool show at Alexander Palace in the late 1990s during a deep recession, when LSPC won a prestigious contract with an overseas royal family. This set off a domino of referrals in the same echelon. The second was during the recent recession, with significant growth from 2010 onwards. Tony has always believed that recessions can create opportunity. After 30 years at the helm, Tony has moved up to become Chairman of LSPC, with director Jamie Smith becoming the new Managing Director. “I am continuing the

successful blueprint started by Tony, with a firm eye on growing the business at the super luxury end of the market,” said Jamie. “The luxury sector includes a sizeable percentage of overseas investors and it has remained resistant to economic vagaries. Since inception, the business has fortunately grown exponentially and during the recession we did the opposite to the broader economy, growing as much as 30% in some years,” explained Jamie.

Key milestones mark LSPC’s development: winning gold awards for outstanding pool design and build and promoting these achievements to client markets; segmenting the group’s business into dedicated Contracting and Servicing operations led by passionate people; hiring specialist professionals to lead on design and costing – these strategic moves have ensured the company’s longevity and enables the company to manage project costs to the benefit of clients and the business. Jamie who is Chairman of SPATA South- East region concluded: “The brand identity and marketing of any business is a key factor in how it is perceived and we have undergone a major re-branding exercise and also created a striking new website which is more representative of where the business is today and where it is going in the future.”

Business Awards Devon-based Golden Coast was recognised as a Finalist last month in the North Devon Business Awards gala event in Barnstaple, at which MP Nick Harvey was guest speaker. Facing stiff competition from 120 entries, the company was shortlisted in the category of SME Business of the Year by a panel of six of the area’s leading business personalities. The six judges were the North Devon

Journal’s Editor Lisa Templeton and Business Editor Robert Zarywacz, North Devon Council’s Economic Development Manager Ellen Vernon, David Avery from the Federation of Small Businesses, Matthew Gard of Davisons and David Parsons of Pearce Barnstaple. After lengthy deliberation, the judges whittled the field down to the four strongest contenders in each of nine categories. Operating from Barnstaple since the late 1970s, Golden Coast is the UK’s largest independent supplier of products to the wet leisure industry. The product range it distributes, throughout Britain and in parts of Europe, includes spas, saunas, steam rooms and pools.

Managing Director Jamie Adams says: “In an industry dominated by large multinational manufacturers and their distribution arms, Golden Coast stands apart as an independent, family-run business. We pride ourselves on offering superior customer service and sharing our in-depth knowledge of the industry and its market conditions with our customers and peers. We are delighted to have been recognised by our local business community through the North Devon Business Awards and we wish all of the finalists success.”

UK Pool & Spa Expo Unveils Plans For Third Edition

Preparations for the third edition of the UK Pool & Spa Expo are already in full

swing as the organising team look to ensure the 2015 show is the best yet. “We were new to the industry, we have run two successful shows and now it is time to take it up a notch,” says Claire Saunders, Director of the Expo’s owners, New Events Ltd. She continues: “We have lots of exciting ideas for how to improve on our current content but also to add a lot of new features too. Thanks to the great support from our exhibitors, the 2015 floorspace is almost sold out, meaning we can really concentrate on making the show a valuable experience for our visitors and we are lucky to have a global database and

strong media partners who will work with us to achieve these goals.”

The UK Pool & Spa Expo will return to the NEC, Birmingham in 2015 from 22 – 24 January, this time in the larger Hall 10. Bigger floorspace means a bigger show and as well as returning favourites such as the New Product Zone, The NSPF Certified Pool Operators Course and a full seminar programme. New features are also being added for the 2015 visitor. On the first two afternoons of the show there will be a dedicated lounge that will play host to a lunch and networking opportunity for architects on day 1 and leisure operators on day 2.

Sauna and steam has had an influence at the event, and for 2015, the organisers will

be shining a spotlight on the sector with a dedicated area. The health benefits of wellness facilities are vast and significant and UK Pool & Spa Expo will be creating more awareness of these through pre-show marketing and live event content. It’s also farewell to the Exhibitor Lounge and hello to the Central Hub. Situated in the heart of the event, this area will have a mix of visitor catering, an exhibitor lounge, an open seminar auditorium and a media hosted networking forum where exhibitors and buyers can meet, speed network or just relax and enjoy refreshments!
