n December 2011 the Brotton Ward suffered a spate of criminal damages in Carlin How. Six motor vehicles were damaged in total and one window was smashed. Brotton Officers carried out extensive house to house enquiries taking details from the victims, sharing information hoping to establish who the offender was. After numerous arrests it is believed that one male may be charged for the offences of criminal damage. Anti Social Behaviour (ASB) reports in the Brotton Ward at present are extremely low. There are no areas of concern at present where youths are congregating causing a nuisance. There has however been complaints from residents about a male riding an off road motorcycle on Laburnum Road, Brotton wearing no helmet at speed. On 08/01/2012 a male was stopped on Coach Road Brotton riding this motorcycle. The rider was not wearing a helmet and his six year old brother who was a passenger was also not wearing a helmet. The motorcycle has been seized and the rider has been reported for numerous motoring offences including no licence, no insurance and no helmet.

December was a successful month for drug activity in the Brotton Ward. One male was arrested in Brotton after he was searched and found to be in possession of cannabis. Brotton Officers also found two cannabis plants at an address in East Loftus which resulted in one male being arrested and dealt with for cultivation of cannabis. A warrant under the misuse of drugs act was executed at a house in Carlin How and three cannabis plants were found in the property. One male was arrested for cultivation of cannabis and the outcome is awaited. Brotton Ward officers hope to continue their success and conduct many more drug warrants in the New Year. Please if you have any information regarding drug misuse in your area contact Cleveland Police on 01642 326 326 or alternatively post a note in the Bobby Box in the Mini Market in Carlin How. You can do so anonymously.

T Lorraine Hudson Commendation

he East Cleveland Policing Team would like to congratulate PCSO Hudson for her recent Commendation from the District Commander, awarded for her continued hard work in reducing Anti Social Behaviour in the Guisborough ward. PCSO

Hudson secured external funding to pay for numerous activities in the summer holidays. These activities included sporting work shops, dance, graffiti art and community projects. PCSO Hudson also worked on her rest days to ensure the success of the project. Recorded anti social behaviour in the Guisborough ward was reduced by 50% when compared with the same period the previous year. Crack House Closure, Westerdale Court. Recently, residents of Westerdale Court approached their local neighbourhood Police Officer to report suspicious activity at one particular apartment. The situation was monitored by police and evidence was gathered relating to activity which was believed to involve controlled drugs. A Magistrate’s search warrant was applied for and executed in late November 2011. An amount of controlled drugs were discovered on the premises and an adult male arrested. The male was cautioned for possession of a class A controlled drug. Subsequently, on 14th December 2011, Police returned to the Magistrate’s court and applied for a closure order on the premises. This was granted and the premises have now been closed and boarded. This operation was only possible with the help, support and co-operation of the community at large, and in particular the residents of Westerdale Court. A crack house closure procedure allows members of the public to make statements to the police anonymously, without having to put their name to a statement or appear in court. The Police officer will attend court and present evidence on the member of the public’s behalf without disclosing the identity of the member of the public. Disorder Howlbeck Road Area Reports have recently been received detailing disorder by youths in the Howlbeck Road area of Guisborough. In the short term, increased targeted uniform patrols have been despatched to the area. In the medium term, after investigation, a number of youths have been interviewed regarding offences of criminal damage and theft. These enquiries are ongoing but a positive outcome is expected after admissions have been made. In the long term, external funding has been secured to create engineering changes to the area outside Howlbeck Road shops. It is expected that this will discourage youths from congregating in this area and reduce disorder and anti social behaviour. In the even longer term, the displacement of youths is actively being researched and a comprehensive solution to youth disorder in this area is expected shortly.

Hutton

Ward Surgeries are held at Galleyhill Community Centre, Kestrel Hide, Guisborough 6.30pm – 7.30pm. Next meeting Feb 13th. Highcliffe Primary School, Hutton Lane, Guisborough 6pm – 7pm. Next meeting Jan 24th

Hutton Priorities: 1. ASB on DORSET ROAD between 16:00hrs and 22:00hrs weekdays and weekends.

2. Off Road Motor vehicles in the Hutton Ward, all times weekdays and weekends. • Meath Way/Dorset Road ASB: We have had some reports recently of antisocial behaviour where groups are congregating

in the area. They are throwing objects at residences and causing nuisance, alarm and distress to the neighbourhood. The ward officers are currently investigating this and are conducting house to house enquiries along with a letter drop in the area. We have already received good intelligence regarding the incidents and positive action will be taken against those individuals involved. • Bolton Way vehicle nuisance: Reports have been received of motorists going the wrong way down the one way system on Bolton Way, Guisborough. The residents are highly concerned regarding this as vehicles going down the wrong way are going onto a busy road where there is limited viewing and a high risk of causing an accident. The police will be watching the area very closely and taking positive action against any offenders identified. • Junior Neighbourhood Watch: PCSO Scott Sanders currently runs an after school session with school children from Chaloner Primary School, Galleyhill Primary School and St Paulinus School called Junior Neighbourhood Watch (JNHW). The sessions are aimed to teach the children how to make their area a better place and also how to be safe at home. We have special guests from different agencies including fire service and community protection officers to name a few. They come in and discuss with the children what they do to help the community and explain their jobs. Our next visitor will be from the mountain rescue team!

If you would like to speak to an officer regarding the above incidents or any other matter, please don’t hesitate to contact us on 01642 302929. Remember you can remain ANONYMOUS whilst speaking to an officer.

D

ear Resident of East Cleveland, My name is Paul Payne and I am the Police Community Support Officer (PCSO) for your village and the surrounding area. Having been posted here for several months, I am aware of concerns regarding the speed of motor vehicles passing through the village.

Over the last few months I have put several things in place with the help of villagers and councillors, in an attempt to reduce the risk of accidents occurring. These have included traffic surveys and mobile speed cameras. This correspondence is a reminder that we have young and old residents who are at risk from those who may use excessive speed through the village.

Cleveland Police wish to do all we can to reassure and protect those at risk from motor vehicles which may use excessive speed. For this reason we are asking that all those who live, drive through and work in the village, are mindful of their speed,

and respect the safety of those who live within your peaceful and scenic location. We hope by working together we can make Moorsholm a safer place.

If you would like to speak with me on this or any other issue then please feel free to ring or email me on the below contact details

Skelton Ward Information.

n November the Skelton team held a crime prevention evening for allotment holders within Skelton and Brotton wards, following unreported incidents and complaints from allotment holders. This was held at Skelton Civic Hall and was presented by PC Gunnell from the Crime reduction team

In December two burglaries were reported in Skelton. A male has been arrested and interviewed and enquiries continue. Theft from allotment sheds has shown a slight increase. We believe that this may be as a result of our drive to encourage victims to report crime. It is important to report all as this gives us an opportunity to research crime patterns and trends and deploy our resources accordingly.

There were 17 reports of disorder in Skelton in December. A number of these were neighbour disputes which fall within this category. Work continues with housing providers in an effort to arbitrate neighbour disputes and reduce their impact on those involved and the wider community. PCSO’s Hartley & Verrill continue to patrol the Rievaulx Road, Courts estate at core times as this area remains a ward priority. Other departments which have assisted in this patrol are Dog section, mounted section using unmarked cars, traffic and Ward Support.

The Civic Hall also has a satellite Police office where the local neighbourhood Policing team operate from and hold their ward surgeries. A ‘Drop Box’ is now placed at Wykeham court increasing the number of boxes to two with the original still outside the Civic Hall. These are in place for the public to utilise to contact their neighbourhood teams. PC 2075 McCrone will shortly be handing over to PC 1931 Cooke, who will be the new Skelton Ward officer.
