tion, and regulations that have enabled it to appear in the calendar of the IAAF as it meets all the standards required for an International race.

This year, the event was held on the 30th of October and registered more than 20,000 runners, among them myself a writer at African Sports Monthly Magazine who participated in the half marathon. Believe it or not, this race must be the most competitive race on earth, given the fact that it is not easy for a winner to defend his/her title for two consecutive years, and it is also a race whereby the highest number of great Kenyan athletes are en- tered. Ernest Kebenei, who hails from Kapsabet, Nandi District, of Kenya, emerged the overall winner in the men’s 42km race, while Margaret Toro- itich, who has been training at Iten, but shifted her training base to Kapta- gat a few days before this race, emerged the winner in the women's cate- gory.
