Quarterback injury saga. In week 12 while playing the Tampa Bay Bucca- neers starting quarterback Matt Schaub would leave the game with a limp and replaced by backup Matt Leinart and it would be found out later on that he had sustained a bone fracture that would rule him out for the rest of the season. Backup Matt Leinart would then step up into the role as starter but his new found role would be short lived as he would be tackled and drove into the ground hard enough to fracture his collar bone at this stage the Texans would call up on lesser known backup T J Yates a fifth round draft pick of the Texans to step up for Leinart against the Jacksonville Jaguars a game the Texans won. Despite all the injury problems the Texans keep winning and in their week 13th encounter against the Atlanta Falcons T J Yates would prevail against veteran Matt Ryan as the Texans won with a score of 10 – 17.
At the beginning of the season newly acquired Quarterback for the Philadelphia Eagles Vince Young dubbed the Team the ‘Dream Team’ after his acquisition to back up Michael Vick and the signing of well sought after corner Nnamdi Asomugha to anchor the Eagles secondary. Well it is look- ing like the dream team has turned out to be the ‘Nightmare Squad’ as the team disintegrates and the season is all looking like it is all but lost and in shambles with Michael Vick injured, Nnamdi Asomugha also injured and has had a rather lackluster season and Desean Jackson the teams mar- quee wide receiver has done everything possible to derail the teams sea- son over a salary dispute.
This has been the season of the backup quarterbacks as we saw Curtis Painter step into Payton Manning’s shoes for the Indianapolis Colts as Manning underwent neck surgery. We have witnessed the quarterback saga with the Houston Texans as Matt Schaub was replaced by Matt Lein- art and Leinart replaced by T J Yates. With starter Jay Cutler for the Chi- cago Bears going down with a broken thumb we saw the bears ask Caleb Hanie the backup asked to step up. The Oakland Raiders lost starter Jason Campbell to a broken collarbone and was replaced by Kyle Boller who would later be asked to step aside for former Cincinnati Bengal QB Carson Palmer who was traded by the Bengals for draft picks. Tim Tebow was asked to step into a starters role after the Broncos decided to release Kyle 59
