Speaking in a news conference in London Drogba said;

"It's a question of patriotism. I love my country and I wanted to contribute to the reconciliation," Drogba told a press conference to discuss his new role late Tuesday.

When asked by his country to serve in the commission, he says he did not think twice.

"I could not say no. Because I love Ivory Coast so much and the country has suffered so much.

"We want peace, we want the country to go forward, to develop and I want to be part of it," he said.

It is evident that with the community work that Drogba is involved in with his foundation in planning to establish of one of the most modern hospitals in the Cote D’Iovire’s history to improve basic healthcare in the country and also in education that he cares deeply for the land of his origin. So playing a role to bring peace to his nation is not only right up his alley but one that he cares for very much.

The Truth and Reconciliation is along the lines of others that have been set and ran in Africa rather successfully as with the Commission in South Africa after Apartheid was abolished and that of the Rwandan Commission after the Rwandan Genocide and more recently in neighboring Sierra Leone which experienced an 11 year brutal war fueled by blood diamonds.
