Joleon Lescott had to constantly make last ditch tackles and well-timed tackles to keep the Spanish wave after wave of attacks at bay. Scott Parker who was voted the man of the match gave a virtuoso performance as the holding midfielder for England. England’s attacks were few and far between. However one of England’s strengths is their ability to utilize their set pieces and they duly scored from one of the few set plays they had a in the second half when James Milner floated a free kick into the box, from which Darren Bent’s header hit the post and Frank Lampard who was captain for the day scored the easiest of headers.


I felt that if this was a competitive match Spain had the ability to go up a few more gears and respond to England. They duly did with the likes of David Villa missing the post and substitute Cesc Fabre- gas missed two chances, one of which was a sitter!
