November Great Rivers
Over 180 Engineering Merit Badges... Earned at the Fall Camporee! “Backwoods Engineer” was the theme at this year’s District Fall Camporee held at Phil- lippo Scout Reservation. Over 180 scouts earned their Engi- neering merit badge and a few more earned their Paul Bunyan Award. Almost 300 people got to enjoy excellent weather and see the construction of some unique catapults as they shot off apples. The boys worked well together and a lot of fun was had by all!
Many thanks to all of the troops that helped man the stations, to the 3M engineers that came down to assist with the program and to our A-Team (AKA The Activities Committee) that put this all together!
Save the date for next year’s Fall Camporee at Phillippo Scout Reservation – Upper Level to be held the weekend of October 5-7th. Webelos are welcome!

Kaposia Chapter of The Order of the Arrow really does provide a
“Brotherhood of Cheerful Service” On September 16-17, Kaposia Chapter held its conclave at Kiwanis Scout Reser- vation and provided help to the camp through various projects. These included: refurbishing the outside of the dining hall, putting in docks on the river, fixing and changing fixtures in the shower building, and revitalizing the climbing tower. Would you be willing to do the work these scouts did?
Patch trading, great food, and of course ordeal and brotherhood ceremonies rounded out this fabulous event.
Fall Camporee - A Really New Experience!! Boy Leaders in Kaposia District planned and executed a very special “Amazing Race” Camporee on Sept 23- 25. They held some new and some traditional events connecting with countries around the world. They also included patch trading blanket time. All left excited and anxious to come back next year. Would you be anxious to try the event this scout did?
Two Special Trainings at November Roundtable on November 8 First, we will hold a Den Chief training. Bring your scouts who are or willing to work with a Cub Scout Den and while you attend roundtable we will train them to be a Den Chief.
Second, we have many exciting changes and updates for the 2012 Family Friends of Scouting Cam- paign. Please join us for November Roundtable where we will hold a Pack, Troop, Crew and Ship FOS Presenter/Chair Training!
This special roundtable will be at Augustana Lutheran Church on Robert Street from 7-8:30 PM. Check either the council or district website for details.
A Highlight Event is Back: Webelos Activity Day Once again this year on Saturday, November 19, Webelos will be able to earn or get a good start on up to 5 activity badge from a huge selection. This event usually draws over 200 Webelos and signs are that will happen again. Don’t miss out. See the district website and register your Webelos. Space is limited.
Kaposia District Leaders Celebrate the Holidays with 2 Special Parties in December On December 2nd we will host a non-uniform party for leaders and their significant others. A chance to get to know each other on a much more personal level, share stories and anecdotes, and just have a good time.
Then at Roundtable on December 13 at Lincoln Center Elementary School Cafeteria we will host a Pot Luck starting at 6:30. Good food and good Scouting fun along with info on what’s coming in 2012. Are you ready? Details on both these events are on the Kaposia Website.
Kaposia District Started the Scouting year off with a Bang!! During the month of September the Kaposia District recruited 109 new Cub Scouts and 76 Lion Scouts! THANK YOU to the Cub Scout PacksBoy Scout Troops, Venture Crews and Ship 248 in the Kaposia District. You are helping to build a great program for years to come. Also, a BIG THANK YOU to our District Membership Team for their time & energy! A special thanks to Jim Kitchen & Kim Baumeister!
Popcorn was also a GREAT success with many units selling all of their show and sell product. Selling popcorn is the best way to guarantee our boys an Ideal Year of Scouting. THANK YOU to all of the popcorn chairs that organized the sale for the “AWESOME!” Kaposia District and each unit. THANK YOU to Joan Smith, District Popcorn Chair and Bob Flascher, Mark Ellenberger & Carl Baumeister for helping with sorting and distribution!
Two things to keep our focus on as we near the end of 2010
Webelos Transition – Let’s make sure all Webelos are ready to join Troops start- ing in February. Have they done all their Arrow of Light requirements? Have they visited prospective troops?
Recharter - Recharters (signed with fee included) are due soon! Due on Jan. 10th @ roundtable for Boy Scout Troops, Venturing Crews and Ship. Due March 13th @ roundtable for Cub Scout Packs.
More details on both of these can be found on the district website. A Happy and Blessed Holiday Season to All from the Scouts & Scouters of Kaposia District!!
