November Dan Patch
District Executive’s Corner It’s an odd feeling to write a Navigator article that will be delivered to all of you about the time I am leaving behind an 11+ year Professional Scouting career. I could tell you all about some of the amazing experiences I’ve had working for the Boy Scouts, but that is just a lot of stories about me. Suffice it to say that it’s been a great ride and that I would not change it for anything. I look forward to seeing you all out and about, I’ll just be wearing green tabs on my uniform when you see me next.
I’d like to instead tell you all something that I hope will help you as much as it has helped me over the past decade, it’s a theme that I shared at Roundtable and the District Committee meeting, but I feel that it bears repeating as often as possible.
Professional Scouters, your DE in other words, will come and go, it’s the nature of the profession and it has both good and ill effects. What provides continuity, identity, and a districts moral compass is the unit leaders and district staff. This is your district, and it will be for the entire time you are involved in Scouting, be that a couple of years, or a couple of decades. It is therefore yours to guide, nurture, defend, build up, renew, and leave better than you found it. Just like we try to do with all of our Scouts. So, if there’s something you don’t like or think could be better; do not hesitate, grab a couple of fellow Scouters and do something about it. Although they can help you, your DE or the council can- not do it better than you can. Dan Patch is your district, what kind of district do you want to have?
Good luck and Good Scouting! Aaron

Order of the Arrow Conclave A big congratulations to all of the ordeal candidates who were elected this spring and who have now joined the Order or the Arrow, as well as all of those Ordeal members who have confirmed their commitment by going through the Brother- hood Conversion. The OA continues to be a strong and vibrant organization here in Dan Patch.
Thanks also to Peter Olive and Randy Barranger who helped to guide our chapter leadership to put on a great conclave for us this year. The Ceremonies team was outstanding, Charles and his team did a great job leading service projects, Jim Lent and his team cooked some great food, and the weather was perfect!
See you all in November for the Lodge Fall Fellowship! Tiger Growl
Fliers for our annual Tiger Growl! Should be in the November round- table files, but put Saturday Decem- ber 3rd , 2011 on your calendar now and let all your new Tiger Cubs and their parents know that we’ve got a day of fun planned just for them! We are planning again for Christ the King church in Bloomington, and the flier is on the website.
Adult Leader Training As we have discussed at roundtables this year, please make sure that you are send- ing your leaders to training throughout the fall for the positions that they have just taken on. Many Cub Scouts leaders will be in need of leader specific training for their new and upcoming leadership role, and many new parents will be stepping up to take on new jobs with Troops and Crews. For questions on training or if you need training and can’t find it, contact John DeCurtins at
jkdecurtins@msn.com
Webelos Meet and Greet This year the Dan Patch District will be hosting its first ever Troop Speed Meet & Greet. This event will take place at the November Roundtable following Peter Olive's Big Gear Talk, and is designed to give our Webelos and their families the opportunity to check out several Troops in a short period of time.
Each Troop that signs up to present will be given 3 to 5 minutes to give your Webelos an overview of what their Troop is about. It could be a skit, it might be a speech, there may be other shenanigans involved in expressing who they are!
So please plan on bringing all of your Webelos scouts that will be transitioning in the Spring, so that they will not only experience Peter's fantastic Big Gear Talk (which I can personally attest to as being extraordinarily valuable!) but also have an easy way to research our Troops and find one they will be excited to join.

We had a great event at Forts Folle Avione in Danbury. Despite the northern cli- mate, we had great weather and a fabulous time. Special thanks to the wonderful folks at the Forts and to those who made the drive! Pictured: Scouts from Grants- burg try out the “War Canoe” that made the trip all the way up from Hastings!
Friends of Scouting Friends of Scouting time is here! Family chair Brad Batdorf and Community Chair Jeff Kuhlman are helping to set us up for a great Friends of Scouting Campaign. A reminder that Units should come to November’s Roundtable with their presentation date (Packs, Blue & Gold Dinners work great, Troops; Winter Court of Honors are good). FOS packets with Unit Goals will be available for pickup. This year for the first time, Units can enter their FOS presentation information online at
Unit Inventories: Unfortunatly, it’s often easy for a new Scouts Paperwork to fall through the cracks. To make sure that every Scout is registered, the District Commissioner Staff will be conducting Unit inventories starting in October. If your Unit is attending No- vember’s Roundtable, please bring a copy of your Pack Roster or Troop that we can check against ScoutNet registration. Unit’s with Commissioner assignments should expect a call from their commissioner. We need to make sure that both the ‘official’ roster and the Pack roster match up. Unit inventories need to be completed by the end of November.
