Polar Cubs is a Day Camp for Scouts from Lions to Webelos, offered every Saturday and Sunday January 7- March 4, 2012. It is going to be a very exciting winter up at Tomahawk Scout Reserva- tion. We are gearing up to provide the very best program possible, and to do this there have been some adjustments to the Snow Base Program.

Spearhead veterans will have the opportunity to earn Wilderness Survival Merit Badge in the Spearhead Extreme: Wilderness Survival program. Scouts will cook over an open fire, learn GPS navigation, sleep in snow shelters, all while completing requirements for Wilder- ness Survival Merit Badge.

The expansion of the Snow Huskies Program is also very exciting. Snow Huskies will now be arriving to camp on Friday night at the

same time as our Spearhead and Dog Sledding groups. Snow Huskies will be staying inside both Friday and Saturday night, and participating in more activities, games, and winter camping skills training than ever before: Winter camping orientation, shelter building, snowshoeing, cross country skiing, ice hill climbing, broom ball, winter survival tag, sledding, campfire build- ing, cooking, and a night hike with star party.

To get that great outdoor winter camping experience the Spearhead program teaches you how to camp overnight in sub-zero temperatures. Building shelters, orienteering, and playing team building games are just some of the things you will be doing.

Scouts in the Dog Sledding program will be outside all day Saturday, and have the option of staying outside Saturday night. They will learn how to care for dogs, the history of Dog Sledding, and get to drive a team of sled dogs.

We hope to see lots of Scouts participate and learn what camping in Minnesota/Wisconsin is really all about. Winter camping is a unique challenge and one that few Scouts get the opportunity to take part in.

SNOW BASE -- Great Gear. . . Great Program . . . Great Staff . . . A Great Experience. North Wind = Winter Adventure

North Wind is ready to provide your troop or crew with the best winter adventure pos- sible. Our experienced staff can hardly wait for your arrival.

From Baffin boots to custom made-fleece hats, our gear room is stocked and ready for your Scouts to outfit themselves completely with everything needed to stay warm for the entire weekend.

Once you’ve been properly attired, you’ll follow the trek of a world-reknowned explorer to your campsite, where you’ll choose from one of five unique options to be your cozy evening shelter. Afterward, your Scouts will spend the afternoon exploring by foot, snow shoes or skis. Along the way your Scouts will challenge themselves, learn new skills and fulfill some rank requirements.

Worried about staying busy? You can try out ice climbing, skiing, snowshoeing, geocaching, hiking, star gazing, broom ball and more. At weekend’s end your group will return to a victory banquet to celebrate your accomplishments.

Space is available in all three of our programs. The Adventure and Expedition programs both stay outside overnight and are for those in 7th grade or older. The Experience program is for those who would like an introduction to win- ter camping and will incorporate an indoor overnight stay. This program is available to those in 6th grade or older. Check out www.nsbsa.org/northwind for more information.
