November Prairie Lakes Message from your Membership Team

First off we want to say thank you for all of your hard work to recruit Cub Scouts into the Cub Scout program in the month of September. We recruited 215 youth for our programs in the month of September. Congratulations to all the unit leaders who have worked tirelessly to bring Scouting to the masses and who haven’t stopped recruiting kids into the program. We don’t have far to go. We only need 110 youth to show growth in Prairie Lakes District. That’s about 2 boys per unit registered to our district. We can do it! Thank you again!

Journey to Excellence

Keep working with your commissioner to stay on track to earn at least the bronze level of Journey to Excellence. Remember this process is different from Centen- nial Quality Unit in the fact that we won’t be reviewing this with you until after recharter 2012.

Nov/Dec 2011

Special thanks to Troop 331 & Troop 119 in Prairie Lakes District

For all 329 of you that were at the fall camporee we hope you had a wonderful time. Troop 331 under the leadership of Amy Andrews did an amazing job planning and executing the Back to the Future themed Camporee. Troop 119 did a fantastic job serving as the backup and helping Troop 331 execute the event. Troop 119 will be the host of 2012 and get ready because the theme has been announced! It will be themed The Amazing Race for Merit Badges. Troop 119 will have stations focused on skills learned while earning merit badges. We will also be incorporat- ing some more skilled activities for older Boy Scouts, such as Black powder rifle, shot gun and such skills as pioneering and orienteering. 2012 Camporee will be on October 5-7.

District Executive’s Minute With the holiday season approaching I wanted to take the opportunity to say thank you to all of the volunteers in Rolling Hills district. Without your commitment to the Scouting program we would not be where we are today and celebrating our successes. Rolling Hills has many reasons to be proud of the programs they are put- ting on for our youth and I ask that all of you take time to recognize each other for your efforts and congratulate and compliment someone in your unit for a job well done.

Make sure we are always giving thanks to one another for the work that we do.

I am taking this opportunity to thank all of you reading this for your dedication to Scouting and I know each and every one of you is doing your best to make this the best youth program it possibly can be. Thank you again!

Tips to Ensure a Successful Friends of Scouting Season

All Rolling Hills units are currently securing dates for their Friends of Scouting presentations. With these FOS presentations approaching keep the following tips in mind to have the best fundraising results.

1. Plan on having an FOS presentation in the time period of November through February at highly attended events like Blue and Gold Banquets or Courts of Honor.

2. Notify and promote to every parent in the Troop or Pack a week before the presentation to get the best turn out for the event.

3. Have an experienced or energized presenter give the FOS presentation to show the importance of Scouting and benefits given by the Scouting program in Northern Star Council.

4. Follow-up with all historical donors who did not attend the unit FOS presenta- tion to secure their donations.

5. Achieve all unit goals and qualify for incentives for your units.

All Welcome to Attend or Host Tables at Million Dollar Day Breakfasts All Rolling Hills members should consider attending Million Dollar Day for Scouting. The event is a council wide blitz day for the 2011 Friends of Scouting Campaign which increases excitement that can carry over to the entire campaign. There will be two breakfasts held in a 24-hour period that all donors, community members and those interested in Scouting are welcome to attend. The dates and locations are December 7th, 7:15-8:30 AM at the Crowne Plaza Riverfront Hotel in St. Paul and December 8th, 7:15-8:30 AM at Base Camp. For questions in re- gards to attending contact Sam Trebnick at strebnick@nsbsa.org or 651-254-9120.
