November Trailblazer A Note from District Executive Joshua Boss

I have been working with the Trailblazer District for two months now, and I want to thank you all for making me feel welcome! I have been very impressed with how this district functions and works together!

I have not gotten an opportunity to meet with each and every one of you just yet, but know that I look forward to meeting you. For those that I have not had contact with yet, if you could please email me with your current position and which unit you work with, it would be most helpful!

My email address is jboss@northernstarbsa. org and my phone number is 763-231-7221. I am here to serve the needs of the volun- teers in the district so that we can continue to make a difference in the life of each youth member that we serve!

If I can ever do anything, please don’t hesitate to ask! Yours in Scouting, Joshua Boss

• Remember to align your Troopmaster roster with the Council roster online. You cannot change the information in the council roster as it has to match original registration records.

November Zulu Fall Camporee recap

The success of the camporee was mea- sured by the Scouters apparent enthusi- asm and by the leadership that the Boy Scouts exhibited. The plan of the com- mittee was to give the Boy Scouts the responsibility of leading all of the events and the training by using the “BrownSea format”. My observations indicated that Troops 61 and 96 met the goals set forth by the committee. It was really delightful to see the Boy Scouts providing scout knowledge to the Cub Scouts.

The weather could not have been more perfect. It felt more like mid June rather than October. No rain worth mentioning and the temperature was in the high seventies all three days. The outdoor activities, the Boy Scout played football and Cub Scouts participated in Archery led by Mr. Craig Watson. We had a Scouter landed a bulls-eye, Sean Currie, Pack 96.

The Saturday luncheon was provided by Troop 96, included their famous Chili and cheese dogs. Special thanks go out to Mr. Delaudreau and Mr. Jeff Sheehan for providing the food and all the folks that help with the serving

I mostly enjoyed the mock campfire skits (actual camp fire prohibited too

dry conditions) where Mr. Billups assisted in assuring that the environment for skits was optimum for the Scouters. The campfire activity was concluded by watching Transformers III, the movie.

Lastly, thanks go to Mr. McMoore for his incessant leadership in this making the Camporee a reality and to Mr. Andrews and troop 61 for opening and closing the Fall Camporee 2011

Cub Scout Training “Every Boy Deserves a Trained Leader.” The BSA brochure clearly states the obvious, you cannot pro- vide quality scouting programs to our youth if haven’t been trained. From Fast Start to Wood Badge, we offer a progression of training courses that will provide you with the informa- tion and material to aid you in “doing your best” for our youth.

The required training courses are Youth Protection, Fast Start Orien- tation, This is Scouting, and Lead- er Specific; please insure that all your adult volunteers have taken these courses.

If you have any questions or would like to sign up for any of our training courses, please call Craig Watson at 763-744-5084 for Cub Leader Train- ing information.

Our Zulu District Popcorn Chair is Sabrina Denson, if you have questions, please call her at 612-596-7876 or email her at Sabrina.Denson@co.hennepin.mn.us

Steve McMoore Presented his Wood Badge Beads

At the Zulu District October roundtable meeting, after many long months of working his Wood Badge tickets to successful completion, Steve McMoore was presented his Wood Badge beads! Wood Badge is the highest leader train- ing a volunteer can partake in. After the intensive training, each participant sets 7 goals (ticket items), in which they must achieve in a set time period. If they accomplish these goals, they are awarded their Wood Badge beads. The next course offered is the 2012 winter course February 3-5 and March 2-4. Contact Mary Degel at 651-776-7317 if you’d like to attend. It truly is a great bonding, and enriching experience!
