Skanska is a leading international project development and construction company, developing offices, homes and infrastructure projects, such as schools and roads. They create sustainable solutions and aim to be a leader in quality, green construction, work safety and business ethics.

TARGETS AND VALUES

Their mission is to develop, build and maintain the physical environment for living, traveling and working, to create sustainable solutions and aim to be a leader in quality, green construction, work safety and business ethics.

DEDICATED OFFSHORE WIND ENERGY TEAM

Richard Plant, Director of Renewables for Skanska stated: “We believe that Concrete Gravity Foundation (CGF) solutions are economic and sustainable.

“To support this, we have a dedicated in-house offshore wind energy team, which combines the skills and experience available to us from across the world of Skanska.

“Our approach gives clients a “One Skanska” innovative delivery solution for future Round 3 and Scottish Territorial Water sites. Our design is for water depths of up to 50 metres, and focuses on the economic efficiencies that can be derived from mass production techniques and removing the reliance of specialist heavy lift vessels for deployment.

And concluded, “We have formed a strategic partnership with Grontmij for the design of CGF, who are a leading European design, engineering and management consultancy with more than 20 years experience in large scale offshore wind projects, and are working to form further partnerships for marine deployment to support our offering.”

VINCI CONSTRUCTION UK – FREYSSINET JV

The VINCI Construction UK - Freyssinet JV is working closely with Gifford (now Ramboll), BMT Nigel Gee and Freyssinet (GBF) for the design, construction, transportation and installation of offshore wind farms in UK waters.

COMPLEMENTARY EXPERTISE

VINCI Construction UK and Freyssinet are sister companies within the VINCI Group with complementary expertise in constructing and installing pre-stressed concrete Gravity Base Structures for offshore projects.

The Jv is responsible for all planning, construction, transportation and installation works. GBF is responsible for the design and development.

OFFSHORE WIND ACCELERATOR PROGRAMME

The Jv/ GBF solution is based upon a patented concept developed by GBF with support from the Carbon Trust as part of

the Offshore Wind Accelerator programme. The solution involves construction of gravity based concrete foundations in a production line facility on land and assembly of the entire wind turbine structure onshore.

TRANSPORT AND INSTALLATION

The completed units are transported and installed onto a prepared seabed with the assistance of a Transportation and Installation Barge (TIB). The TIB is a low cost, low maintenance ‘dumb’ barge, built specifically for this process that is towed and located using tugs. Utilising the TIB avoids the need for multiple offshore operations to assemble the wind tower using expensive offshore cranes.
