UNLOCKING THE HUMBER’S WIND ENERGY POTENTIAL FOR BUSINESSES

PROFESSIONAL ASSISTANCE

The private sector business networking organisation helps companies enter the renewable energy market and many of its members have an interest in, or are already involved with, the wind industry in the Yorkshire and Lincolnshire areas.

ACHIEVEMENTS

One of Renewables Network’s main achievements has been explaining, in practical terms, how companies of all sizes, and from a variety of sectors, will be required to form the Humber’s offshore wind, wave and tidal power supply chains.

Now boasting more than 200 members, the Renewables Network has been a high-profile and passionate supporter of the Humber’s emergence as a green energy hub.

Through a combination of in-house business development, conferences and meet the buyer events, the network has helped many organisations find their position in the renewables market.

Paula Gouldthorpe, membership development director of the Renewables Network, said: “In the past, networks have concentrated on specific industries, but we have been keen to demonstrate that the wind energy supply chain is broader and so our membership comprises various businesses, from legal firms and accountants to engineers and the wind farm developers themselves.”

“The network’s aim is to put our expert knowledge to use – helping companies get the most from what is still a relatively new industry in the UK.

“This could mean identifying tender opportunities, introducing firms who may want to work together or explaining to local authorities, or other decision makers, about how they can support small businesses and the industry as a whole.”

A WIDER INTEREST

Although Renewables Network, which was formed a year ago, has a strong focus on the Humber area, another of its great strengths has been in its wide geographic reach and connections – with major developers E.ON and RWE Npower Renewables counted among its membership.

In the past 12 months, the organisation has staged conferences across the UK, including an event in Nottingham looking at manufacturing opportunities and a finance workshop in Leeds.

And, earlier this summer, the network took a significant role in a trade mission to Norway that brought together leading players in the North Sea offshore wind industry.
