ABLE MARINE ENERGY PARK (AMEP) HUMBER – A BRAVE NEW WORLD

‘THE BIG SPACE IN THE RIGHT PLACE’ Since the first twinkle in the eye of the Offshore wind sector, key industry players have been relentless in saying ‘provide the infrastructure and we will come’ and they offered comparisons to the need for the UK public sector to kick start a development that could compete with the likes of Bremerhaven.

STRENGTHENING MARKET OUTLOOK

Since those early days, and with a strong (and some would say brave) leg-up from Government the market outlook for offshore wind has strengthened providing greater commercial justifications for very significant private sector investment. At the same time – and we heard this first hand from Charles Hendry last month – the sector needs to close in on his target of £100 per megawatt hour.

IPC SUBMISSION

September 2011 saw the submission to the IPC for the consent to build the quay and Able UK have cut no corners and left no stone unturned in this critical part of an initial development process that has so far represented a £5m, and wholly speculative, investment.

AMEP – ‘THE BIG SPACE IN THE RIGHT PLACE’

AMEP has become synonymous with the phrase, ‘and there is no better way to describe its scale (300 + hectares) and ideal location. More importantly than any marketing speak however is the design itself:

• 1,500m of heavy duty quays with 20t -100t per square metre load capacity

• 60m berthing pocket at -11m CD and direct access to the quay for all tenants

This is no time for faint hearts – this is indeed a brave new world - and one in which Able UK is committed to playing a full part. Able Marine Energy Park (AMEP) will be an operational port dedicated to the needs of the renewable energy sector and, crucially, has been designed to the sectors own (and exacting) specifications.

LISTENING TO NEEDS

Moreover – and again through listening to the sector - tenants are offered unlimited use of the quay with no additional goods dues for materials or tons passing over it.

TRANSPARENT CHARGING MODEL

In this emerging industry the stakes are high and stakeholders are understandably looking to offset swathes of uncertainty wherever they can. Able UK recognise that clients need a transparent charging model so that they can plan with both confidence and retain the flexibility to react to and overcome some of the major logistics challenges that lie ahead.

THE WILL AND THE PASSION

For Able UK ‘s part they have the will, resource and passion to provide the facility that industry have been saying they need, and more to the point the one that offers the scale to maximise efficiencies and the infrastructure and location to execute speedy and cost effective deployment.
