SPONSORS OF THE CONCRETE FOUNDATION FEATURE

BUSINESS LEADER CELSA

Celsa is the UK’s leading manufacturer of steel for the reinforcement of concrete, supplying around 70% of the UK’s requirements. Celsa’s manufacturing process recycles scrap metal sourced from within the UK into new steel products, which have a recycled content of approximately 98%.

SUSTAINABILITY AND RESPONSIBILITY

In 2009 Celsa became the first steel producer in the world to be certified to a recognised independent responsible sourcing standard, Eco- Reinforcement, which is the reinforcing sector standard to BRE’s Sustainability and Environmental Framework Standard for the Responsible Sourcing of Construction Products, BES 6001. Eco- Reinforcement certification addresses a vast range of sustainable and responsible sourcing criteria throughout the complete reinforcing steel supply chain; this will guarantee traceability and transparency.

COMMITMENT

Celsa’s commitment to managing and continuously improving on our environmental and health and safety impacts form a key part of our sustainable ethos. This is demonstrated through our environmental and health and safety management systems, accredited to ISO 14001 and OHSAS 18001, as well as our EMAS certification, through which our environmental performance is communicated.

Celsa have always looked to lead in all aspects of its business, particularly with regard to quality, environmental and health and safety issues. Through its’ ISO 9001 certified quality management system, Celsa is the only manufacturer to solely supply grade 500C steel, the highest quality reinforcing steel grade specifiable in British and European Standards, across its’ entire product range. The durability and ductility advantages of Grade 500C are widely acknowledged, and could be of great benefit when used in offshore substructures.

RELIABLE SUPPLY CHAIN

As the UK offshore wind sector starts to finalise its development stage and progresses into the construction stage one thing has become apparent, the need for a stable, reliable and predictable supply chain. As a member of the gravity base foundation SIG Celsa have been given the opportunity to impart their knowledge of steel reinforcing and apply it to this sector, allowing them to pioneer innovative solutions through a robust supply chain.

LOCATION

From its mill in Cardiff with its extensive transport links, Celsa provides national coverage through its strong customer base, and is ideally situated to supply any of the round 3 sites through a proven, local, predictable and systematic supply chain.
