effective product for the extensive Post Office installation programme. For example, metal side panels were replaced with ones produced from High Impact Styrene. PPE was able to produce the new prototype within two weeks and, once approved, the full order of 500 units was manufactured within six weeks. Time is a key factor in any installation, especially when circumstances change in the late stages. The fact that PPE were able to turn this project around so quickly meant minimal disruption to the client. a more active role in the interaction with customers, methods of displaying product offerings are changing. The use of tablet devices in retail means that a store can display all of its stock without taking up excessive square footage. In order to capitalise on this recent popularity, Octanorm has worked with specialist supplier Mantis to develop a high precision holder and stand for use with such devices. The system has a stylish aluminium
finish, and can be set up in a horizontal or vertical position. A ‘quick cam release’ allows for the latest iPads to be set up or removed, and there is also a ‘home button’ that retailers can use to ensure that only a specific presentation is shown to customers. An added bonus with the device is that it has been designed as a theft deterrent, with a simple and effective solution being developed with portable security company Kensington.

The use of iPads and tablet devices is
no longer simply being considered as a novelty, with a number of retailers beginning to announce increased sales as a result of their use. Fashion brand Reiss has recently announced the success of introducing a WiFi network, supplied by Vodat International, which enables iPads to connect to the Reiss website in store so that customers can view their entire collection. Alex Dixon, Business Systems
Manager at Reiss, said, “We noticed a gap between the products we offered in our stores and those on our website and needed to address this. With the introduction of iPads, customers are able to browse the website in store and can purchase other items”. Since the introduction of iPads Reiss has seen a significant uplift in sales, so Dixon
believes the project will pay for itself in less than three months. Although the way retailers display their stock may be changing, there is one thing that will always ring true; customers need to be enticed with exciting display systems to ensure purchases, whether this be through bold colours, bright lights, or innovative technology.
