custom mannequin ranges, Universal Display, have announced a brand new range of mannequins, Project+, to address this issue. Project+ is a brand new plussize
mannequin that is going to be premiered at Universal’s New York Showroom as part of the Retail Design collective on the 57th December 2012. The team at Universal Display believe that staying relevant to audience is essential and so, responding to media and client requests, they have developed this abstract plussize mannequin that they feel is beautiful and elegant, whilst reflecting the voluptuousness of a larger size. “We have seen a gap in the market and it was time that such a mannequin was developed,” explains Sculptor and Director Adrian Coe. “Over the last few years the popularity of Adele and Christina Hendricks have captured and challenged the public perception of the larger size; Universal thought the time was right that this was properly recognised”. Functionality is the key to a successful
mannequin, so a range that has a number of different poses is essential. Poses give mannequins a little more life, which allows customers to relate a little more to how products might look on them. As retailers are beginning to realise the importance of mannequins with personality, expectations are increasing. In reaction to this, proportion>london, a UK company that creates bust forms and contemporary accessory presenters, has developed a new collection of mannequins that they are labelling as a ‘workhorse collection’ of male and female mannequins called ‘SERIES’. The SERIES range has been specially
designed so that each of the figures can group well or stand out as individual

figures, and the team have organised the range as an openended collection, meaning that new poses will be added seasonally to provide added flexibility. The SERIES range has been developed
with a roundshoulder profile to enable different arm positions, and a choice of various heads adds additional custom possibilities to the range. Next on the list for proportion>london is a collection of SERIES accessory items to compliment the range. This, they believe, will provide clients with the right visual display solution to suit their brand identity. Mannequins are a staple in fashion
retailing, and it’s great to see how the sector is changing to keep up with new trends. Evolution is essential in ensuring that mannequins continue to hold their position at the heart of fashion retailing.
