PLAYMATES TOYS has named its marketing and distribution partners for its Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles line. The Giochi Preziosi Group will handle European countries including the UK, Belgium, France, Greece, Italy, the Netherlands, Spain and Turkey. Playmates has appointed Headstart (Australia), Spin Master (Canada), Stadlbauer (Germany, Austria and Switzerland), Toy Triangle (Middle East and North Africa), Planet Fun (New Zealand), Concentra (Portugal), Gulliver (Russia) and Prima Toys (South Africa). The TMNT toy line is due to launch in autumn 2012 in the US and Canada, coinciding with the premiere of the new CG-animated series from Nickelodeon. Asterix heading overseas after Start Licensing deal


START LICENSING has secured the third party licensing rights for the UK and Ireland to the popular Asterix character.


The firm is now looking to develop products for the Les Editions Albert Rene property in the


collectables, giftware, greetings cards, bedding and apparel sectors. The first


book – Asterix the Gaul – was published in the UK in 1961. Since then, 34 albums have sold over 23 million copies in the English language, while the character has

featured in a number of live action and animated films. There is also a dedicated Asterix theme park in France, which receives around two million visitors per year. “We believe that Asterix fits well into our portfolio, presenting a great opportunity for us to develop some fantastic licensed products using the unique graphic style of Asterix, and

NCP UK inks first DTR with Asda’s George

the clothing departments of Asda stores, too.


The firm has struck its first direct to retail deal with Asda’s George, which will see it produce collections featuring Nickelodeon characters such as Spongebob Squarepants, Dora the Explorer, Victorious, Big Time Rush and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. “We’re delighted to be working with George on developing this clothing range, which will feature
