SECTOR GUIDE SPRING/SUMMER 2012 55 TOMY

2012 will see Tomy unveil new products across its pre-school, infant, boys and girls collections. Tomy will add a new licensed range based on the CBeebies show Raa Raa the Noisy Lion. Tomy’s Raa Raa range is set to launch at Toy Fair 2012, with a high profile competition in partnership with The Sun newspaper set to run ahead of the launch. The range allows children to

recreate Raa Raa’s world of the Jingly Jangly Jungle at home with interactive fun. The range includes plush, feature plush, fun bath toys, chunky figures of all six characters, vehicles and larger play-sets such as Raa Raa’s Interactive Play-set, which is a replica of Raa Raa’s house in the show and features fun interactive elements. The figures, play-set, and fun vehicles –

Raa Raa’s Cubby Buggy and Huffty’s Train – are all part of the new Character Play System. All vehicles and play-sets contain at least one ‘Smartspot’ - by placing any figure on the ‘Smartspot’ it will automatically recognise the character, play a sound or phrase related to that character and in some instances provide a movement or action. The system is designed to encourage collectability. Tomy is also set to launch a range of

Winnie the Pooh nursery, infant and pre- school toys. Across 2012, the range will include 25 new products from core nursery lines such as rattles and lightshows through to play-sets and innovative feature plush, including the interactive Rumbly Tumbly Pooh, as well as bath toys, pull- along and push-and-play toys. For boys, Tomy has added to the K’Nex

Mario Kart Wii construction ranges, with new Mario & Luigi Standard Bike Building Sets, featuring Mario, Luigi Yoshi and Bowser, and new Kart Building Sets, allowing kids to recreate the racing game by building karts with a pull-back motion action. Following the launch of the Teacup Piggies, the range is set to expand with the introduction of Teacup Piggies Piglets toys. Smaller than the original Piggies and suitable for girls aged six and over, there are six to collect, each with its own carry bag and collar with clip. Also new is the Teacup Piggies Piglets Bedtime Set, which includes two Piglets, two miniature teacups plus milk bottles and bibs, as well as a comfy basket so the Teacup Piglets can bed down for the night. Teacup Piglets will launch at Toy Fair 2012.

Tomy’s miniature doll range, Pinypon, is also set to expand, with existing lines being refreshed for the spring/summer season. The Pinypon Doll range will receive a makeover with new packaging and styles, along with the Pinypon Doll with Bag and Pet set and the Travel Pack and Six Figure Pack. New Pinypon lines include fruit-themed Pinypon Scented Dolls, and Sports Themed Pinypon Pals – with a boy and girl Pinypon doll with either tennis or ice-skating accessories. There is also a brand new Five Figure Pack of Scented Dolls with a flower theme to collect.
