News • Media • Opinion Industry gives thumbs up to BLE Strong turn out from retailers and international visitors  150 firms booked for 2012... by Samantha Loveday

EARLY FEEDBACK on this year’s Brand Licensing Europe has proved positive, with the majority of exhibitors and visitors polled by ToyNews saying they believed attendance was up.

The show was praised for being busy and buzzy, and for attracting a good number of international visitors and retailers, plus quality walk-ups. “We definitely saw an increase in international visitors attending our show,” said Mattel’s Jo Broadfield. “I would estimate that some 50 per cent of the visitors to the Mattel stand were international. We had a great turn out from some key European retailers.”

Nicole Blake, EVP global

marketing and consumer products at Classic Media, agreed that retail representation was strong: “We did more retail meetings than at any prior BLE.”

Many remain in favour of the third

day, too, but a number mentioned that the 5pm finish on days one and two could be extended. “I think we could open for another hour on both the first two days,” commented Start MD, Ian Downes.

In general, the proposed new layout for 2012 was well received. “I think the new layout will be interesting and I think the main challenge for the organisers will be to ensure that there is enough interest

and activity right through the increased show floor area,” Sam Johnson, senior licensing manager at JCB, said.

Jessica Blue, event director for

BLE, said: “150 companies have reserved their space for 2012, which is a significant increase on the number booking at this time in 2010. This is a great indicator of how well the show delivered for the exhibitors that invested in it.” www.brandlicensing.eu
