ISV event sets new agenda
IT EUROPA has set the date for the European ISV Convention 2011, taking place at the London Marriott Grosvenor Square Hotel on 10 February. The event, which is spon-
sored by leading vendors and trade organisations such as IBM and SIIA (Software Information Industry Association), will bring top flight Independent Software Vendors (ISVs) together with hard- ware, software and service organi- sations to explore and address the issues affecting the development of the IT industry in Europe. The conference programme will feature sessions on Cloud Computing, Business Transforma- tion and Differentiation. During these sessions lead-
ing industry speakers will explore changing business models and their impact on the development of applications and solutions. The programme will also exam-
ine how market forces are impact- ing the competitive landscape and how ISVs need to adapt to com- pete effectively within this chang- ing world. Outside of the main confer-
ence, boardroom presentations and networking sessions will highlight strategies for growth, collabora- tion and cooperation in developing

Exponential-e bags framework contract
EXPONENTIAL-E, the fast growing next generation network and cloud applications provider, has been selected by JANET (UK) for its supplier framework for data transmission services.
JANET (UK) manages the operation and development of JANET on behalf of JISC (Joint Information Systems Committee) for the UK Further and Higher Education Funding Councils The framework is a four year
agreement with selected suppli- ers to provide the education and research network with services that include leased circuits, dark fibre, wide area Ethernet and xDSL.
The framework’s value is
approximately £80m. Over 18 mil- lion end users are currently served by the JANET network. The JANET network connects
universities, FE colleges, research councils, specialist colleges, adult and community learning providers. David Lozdan, Exponential-

Nimans gets full range of Polycom kit
NIMANS has extended its port- folio of IP handsets following an agreement to carry Polycom’s com- plete voice-enabled range and its Microsoft OCS integrated voice and video solutions. The distributor forecasts up to
35% year-on-year growth for IP hosted end points across the indus- try and according to Ian Brindle, Head of Conferencing and Handset Sales at Nimans, this trend trans- lates into a significant opportunity for comms resellers. Brindle commented: “Nimans
now has a direct relationship with Polycom to cover all of its IP hand- set range, primarily based on host- ed solutions. “This creates a powerful propo- sition and many new opportunities for resellers to take advantage of, such as service, convenience and technical expertise.” Nimans has also added Polycom’s complete Microsoft OCS certified portfolio – from the CX100 USB speakerphone and new CX500 and CX600 IP phones, to the CX3000 IP conferencing unit and CX5000 unified conference station. Brindle said: “Many companies
are embracing OCS technology. The big message is that from host- ed solutions through to integration with unified comms via OCS, the growth opportunities are massive.”
Entanet beefs up capacities
ENTANET is to increase the capacity of its national next gen- eration network, committing to the upgrade to 10Gbps of the London- Midland-North ring of its UK- wide network. Steve Lalonde, Entanet’s Chief
Technical Officer, commented: “We already operate at 10Gbps or better across London, and at 10Gbps between London and our principal Birmingham, Stoke and Manchester locations. “Now, in line with Entanet’s
investment plans, forecasted growth and our network devel- opment strategy, we’re upgrading the links around the midland and northern areas to 10Gbps.”
