Distie in free comms audit
DISTRIBUTOR DMSL is offer- ing a free telecoms audit to SMBs in a bid to generate leads for its hosted voice services partners. The audit looks at the cost sav- ings that could be made by switch- ing to alternative call plans or host- ed voice services. So far the audits have typically identified potential savings of between 20-60%. John Carter, MD of DMSL,
said: “Many businesses have lines that they do not use, and most of them could be on a call plan that will save them anything of between a quarter and a third off their cur- rent call costs, all they need to do is switch to that service. “In more extreme cases we’ve been able to show organisations how they can make even greater savings and become more flexible and responsive to their customers by implementing hosted VoIP.” Carter says the timing of the
free audit offer coincides with growing pressure on businesses to trim their costs and ensure that they are insulated from the pos- sibility of a double dip.

“More businesses are also becoming aware of hosted VoIP and other online services,” he said. “The market is starting to under- stand that, not only are these ser- vices available, but also that they actually do work and can bring tremendous advantages.” DMSL has already signed up
more than 30 resellers nationwide to help it take hosted voice services to market. “We’d like to double the num-
ber of partners we are working with on hosted VoIP before the end of the year,” her stated.
UNICOM has reported a 13% increase in sales and a 14% rise in pre-tax profits to the end of April 2010, its eleventh trading year. The Manchester-based business saw turnover increase from £44.5m in 2009 to £50.5m in 2010, with pre-tax profits up from £11.2m to £12.8m. Chris Earle, Unicom’s Operations Director, commented: “Forecasts for 2010/11 are equally positive. We’re expecting turnover to reach £55m and profits are projected to rise to more than £15m.”
Maintel set to snap up more assets
MAINTEL Holdings is to buy a number of maintenance contracts and business assets from Redstone for a cash consideration of £1.75m. The assets are being acquired
by Maintel Europe, a subsidiary of Maintel Holdings, from Marcom Communications and Redstone Converged Services (RCS), both subsidiaries of Redstone. Maintel will transfer across 40 employees from RCS and Marcom. Around £1.7m per annum of customer contracts are being acquired, on which the company believes industry standard associ- ated revenues (equipment sales, professional services, for example) and cross sales will be achieved. Maintel has also agreed to sup-
ply certain customers of Redstone in respect of telecoms maintenance for approximately £280,000 a year. Eddie Buxton, Chief Executive,
said: “These two acquisitions pro- vide a major step forward in sup- porting Maintel’s strategic priorities of expanding its Avaya capabilities, adding to recurring maintenance revenue stream and strengthening its presence in the SME market. “The acquired customer bases complement Maintel’s existing businesses and provide cross selling opportunities for the company’s full portfolio of products and ser- vices. The acquisitions are expected to be earnings enhancing and sig- nificant integration synergies have been identified.”

MANAGED IT service provider Modern Networks has opened the doors to its new central London office in Dufferin Street, now the springboard for building a stronger presence in the capital. Matthew Reeve, Modern Networks’ MD, commented: “We have seen Modern Networks expand rapidly in the last year both in terms of sales growth and recruitment of staff. The next natural step for us was to open an office in London to better serve our customers and to facilitate our ambitious future plans for growth.” James Tizzard, Sales Director, has overseen a 30% rise in sales and predicts a strong fourth quarter. “This is great news for the business and will put us in good stead to meet our growth targets,” he added. “To achieve our future goals it is vital for us to have a presence in London.” Modern Networks was formed in 2000 and also has two other offices in Hitchin, Hertfordshire. The company’s technology partners include NetApp, Microsoft, HP, IronPort, Cisco and VMWare.
