given its opportunity for certification advancement, does focus more intensely on technical material. Overall, I learned plenty at both academies. Although, as USSA had me venturing more out of my usual comfort zone, I’d have to say I experienced a bit more personal growth there. Tere is a lot of material I’ll be bringing back to my PSIA world from USSA. I may not be working with grooming crews to set up any Super G jumps, or clearing 40 meters in the air in a stable, clean, aerodynamic position, but concepts and materials based on sound, evidenced-based science and principles of skiing and how the human body “works” don’t change just because gates are, or are not, involved. I witnessed excellent alignment between the skiing and teaching concepts between our two organizations. Were there differences

in terminology, emphasis and applications? Yes. Were there differences in what the fundamentals of good skiing and effective coaching are? No. I think it’s great that PSIA and USSA

are collaborating. Both will benefit as a result. Organizationally, sharing clinicians, coaches, and resources, can’t help but strengthen our ties and our sport.
