SIA-AASI’s Fall Conference and Leadership Summit took place in Summit County, Colorado, November 2-6, 2016, bringing together education representatives and association leadership including member school managers, division executive directors and presidents, the PSIA-

AASI Board of Directors, and the entire PSIA-AASI National Team. Te event provided an incredibly collaborative opportunity for stakeholders to participate in on-snow and indoor educational and team-building activities to prepare for the upcoming season and lay the groundwork for the future direction of PSIA-AASI. Here, PSIA-AASI Director of Education Dave Schuiling talks about the growing momentum around Fall Conference, and what it means for all PSIA-AASI members.

What are the top three takeaways from Fall Conference? 1. Tis was by far the largest Fall Conference event, with strong divisional representation in all standards disciplines and participation by the entire PSIA-AASI Team. Te Member School Management Seminar drew twice as many attendees at the 2014 event.

2. Te attendance, combined with the level of commitment, is 52 | 32 DEGREES • WINTER 2017

truly inspiring. It’s amazing what these groups can accomplish in a very short time together. Face-to-face meetings proved to be extremely fruitful, showing that interpersonal connection creates the spark for innovation and collaboration.

3. Te spirit of this event is about the evolution of our national standards. Common themes, such as consistency in the fundamentals across all of the disciplines, is creating even more alignment within our standards.

Te final group presentations were truly inspirational, showing the commitment to work for our membership. Although they were exhausted from working from dawn until late in the evening every day of the conference, each group gave a 15-minute presentation on their work while outlining projects that lie ahead. A packed room of roughly 130 sat fully engaged and inspired for two-and-a-half hours. A ridiculous amount of progress was presented. Our future is very bright.
