2016-20 TEAM SELECTION
Members of the AASI Snowboard Team gel as a group and get in some quality riding at Colorado's Arapahoe Basin.
snowboarding and AASI. T e Learning Connection and all its aspects are a huge part of what we are working on. T is team is also looking into options to bring back the Rider Rally so the snowboard members of this organization have their own event again.
+RZ GRHV WKLV EHQHfi W $$6Ζ PHPEHUV" SA: T e Learning Connection model
will benefi t the
membership on all levels. Instructors will have a training tool to help identify their personal strengths and what areas to work on. T is should also help trainers identify needs in their training programs. When all this comes together, it will also give examiners better platforms for giving feedback at exams. A solid piece like this is a huge step forward for the organization.
What key initiatives will this team focus on going forward? PSIA-AASI Team Captain Geoff Krill: I really feel we are working on simplifying our approach to teaching skiing through the fundamentals. Adaptive will be also be focusing on bringing a new manual to the membership and helping them putting it to best use.

GK: All members will benefi t from a consistency across disciplines and a uniform language and approach. Also, our membership is starved for additional videos from the teams. We will better be able to connect with our members along this type of platform.
50 | 32 DEGREES • WINTER 2017
What are you most excited about with regard to this new team? PSIA Nordic Team Coach David Lawrence: 2016 marks a distinctive change for the Nordic Team. Every member, except for the coach, is new. In another change, there are no all-mountain, cross discipline experts. We have two telemark specialists, and two cross country specialist. T is distinctive change from team’s past, speaks to the changing
relationship of telemark and cross-country. T e 2016 Nordic team signifi es a stronger commitment to
addressing the distinction between the two sports in order to better serve the PSIA-AASI membership. With the energy and enthusiasm the 2016-20 PSIA-AASI Team demonstrated at its fi rst training event, there’s no doubt that you and your fellow snow pros are in for exciting improvements in snowsports education. Each issue of 32 Degrees will contain a signifi cant amount of instructional insight from the PSIA-AASI Team (and you can also go to T
eSnowPros.org to fi nd out more about each member). Insights from the teams – and literally hundreds of stories pertinent to your professional development – are also featured in the daily news items on PSIA-AASI’s newly improved website. Education Director Dave Schuiling is right… the learning never stops.
