surprised.” Patti went to see the show at the Paris Casino in Las Vegas. “As soon as I sawthe character of Esmeralda a gypsy girl I knew it would be a perfect fit for me so I booked a ticket for the audition – my agent thought I was crazy as he hadn’t even been in contact with them but they agreed to see me and I auditioned and the part was mine.” She was also asked by both Brian May and Roger Taylor of Queen to perform in their Las Vegas production of We Will Rock You, as their Killer Queen. “Queen was my favourite band growing up and I’d always warm up to Queen songs before every Meat Loaf show. One night Meat asked me to come to his dressing room and Brian May happened to be there, as he was going to jam with us that night, and they asked me if I’d like to perform with them which was just
incredible. When the difficult times come along it’s those incredible moments which drive you through and forward.” Another great idol of Patti’s is Cher. “Growing up I’d always watch the Sonny and Cher show, I literally wanted to be her. The much later in my life I’m singing with her in Las Vegas!” Patti is now writing her autobiography. “I can’t tell you the title, but I’ve been writing it for a while now. I’d like to think my old English teacher from the 7th Grade will be most proud. I go on great walks and clear the mind and thank goodness for smart phones as I can put down the thoughts and title chapters whilst walking and then I write them up when I get back. Sometimes the ideas just come spewing out of me like confetti cannons so it’s
practically writing itself.” She keeps her personal life private. She’s never had any children due to the hectic touring schedules. “I love kids but it’s the downside of being so focussed and career orientated, it was sad because relationships crumbled because of that, but I am blessed to have my family and friends and their children around me. I’m also a great believer in fate. People might say it’s insane at this stage of my career to go solo but I remember at 30 thinking things are not going to happen for me and then it all took off so I’m just taking baby steps each day and seeing where they lead me.” interview Stephanie Mackentyre
