Exciting new artists in April exhibition

Some new and exciting artists will be exhibiting for the first time in Bury St Edmunds at The Edmund Gallery April 24-30. David Cobley NEAC will lead the line up, his

serene and reflective paintings of the female nudes demonstrate outstanding mastery of paint, tone and composition. An award winning portrait and figure painter David's subjects are from all walks of life. He was short listed for the BP Portrait Award, elected to the Royal Society of Portrait Painters and was commissioned by the Inner Temple to paint HRH The Princess Royal. His portrait of the comedian Ken Dodd was bought by the National Portrait Gallery for its permanent collection. Malcolm Ashman, another West Country artist and a landscape painter in the romantic tradition, will complement David's work. Malcolm's work is strongly influenced by the rolling countryside of his native West Country. Colour, shape and imagination all come into play here which gives his work a unique quality. His abstract urban landscapes seemingly constructed of building blocks of colour are no less impressive. Katya Gridneva, another award winning portrait artist, particularly known for her outstanding figures, returns to the gallery. The exciting news is that she will be present throughout some of the exhibition to meet previous clients and to discuss her work. She is a member of the Royal Portrait Society and was artist in residence at Highclere Castle on the estate of Lord Caernarvon. She will be exhibiting new figurative work. Sculpture has always been part of Josephine Harpur's exhibitions so it is not surprising to find Mel Fraser as a new artist. She is a sculptor of exceptional talent - working both figuratively and in the abstract her stone pieces have a presence that cannot be ignored. Adam Binder, one of Britain's leading wildlife sculptors, will be returning with more of his exquisite work. Adam has a signature fluid style of simple lines and flowing forms depicting both movement and emotion that beautifully captures the essence of his subjects. Working primarily in bronze with earthly rich patinas, Adam's work is recognised and collected all over the world. Malcolm Taylor, Peter Kelly, Pamela Kay and Louise Balaam will also be part of this eclectic mix, a must see for any art lover.
