Vermeer on tracks or wheels

Pride of place on Vermeer UK’s stand was given to the recently introduced RTX130 pedestrian controlled trencher. The 889mm-wide machine was shown fitted with distinctive triangular rubber

tracks, and wheels are available as an option. Powered by a 10kW Honda petrol engine, the machine weighs 399kg when fitted with wheels, and 517kg on tracks. Operators steer the machine using handlebars rather than levers or a steering wheel. The chain trencher provides a cutting width of 102mm to 152mm and a maximum digging depth of 914mm.

Freeze Master highlighted the fact that, in late 2007, it started development of its 420D model, the first in a new range of electric pipe freezers which was launched at the Show the following February. The company says that the modified chassis design, incorporating a carry case with slots available with the lid closed, proved so popular that its subsequently revised its 690E, 280D and ezefreeze models. It adds that, in the following nine years, not one of these machines has been returned with an unexplained gas loss. The units are designed not to require gas top-ups, re-gassing or frequent service checks.

Special blue Thwaites model

Amongst all the yellow dumpers on the Thwaites stand, the Leamington- based company displayed one of its small 300kg-payload Micro dumpers painted in the distinctive blue of Coventry City FC. It marked the 2-1 win the evening before the Show opened, when the team beat Wycombe Wanderers in the Football League Trophy Semi-final played at the Ricoh Arena. Pictured beside the special machine are, from left: Tom Heywood of Shell Plant, James Gallagher of Charles Wilson Engineers and Thwaites’ Ian Brown and Andy Sabin.
